btw city adviser

ON the city adviser screen next to the production list (top right corner) there is a black icon resembling an hour glass or a chess piece. I have reread the game manual several times but can't find what this stands for. Can someone clarify?

i think it might be for online play like when ur online u have 2 minutes to finish ur turn or something but ill check tonight to make sure

Thanks for the help General. I don't think it could be that because below the icon is a whole list of numbers running down the screen next to each city. i'm sure it's something pertaining to each city but I just can't figure it out.

i didnt have a chance to play civ tonight but i think it has to do with production or growth maybe it slowly fills as turns go by to build something or somehting of that sort....

I was curious and loaded an old save game to see what you were talking about. I have to admit, I looked at it and can't figure out what that is. I'm not sure I ever paid attention to it. Here's a screen shot for everyone else: If you drill into the city, the closest guess I can come up with is something to do with city defense, as some cities have that symbol and then their city defense bonus (example +30% or whatever). But after drilling into those cities, I cannot figure out what the heck that is as the few ideas I had didn't seem to make sense. Anyone else want to take a crack at it?

Maybe it has something to do with the presence of walls and/or castle inside the city? Not sure though.

I never paid attention to it either. As posted before, that symbol should have something to do with defense. Could it be the number of units in that city??

Thanks again guys for all the help. It is obviously some type of defensive value. Example: if I go to the examine city screen my city of Portland has a defense of +60. But under that little black icon on the city adviser screen Portland has a value of 15. What does this mean? I probably should just go on playing and forget about it but it's driving me bananas.

Have you tried taking some of the units out of fortify mode for a couple of turns to see if that changes somehow?
