Ooooo what a luverly medal. Thank you. As to what sort of job I did, only time will tell. I would have liked to have finished off the Portuguese but movement in this era is so frustratingly slow. I am also annoyed I didn't anticipate what Alpha would do and try to steal Theology earlier and try for the Apostolic Palace ourselves. I was waiting for maximum discount and also the possibility of leaving the spy to cause civil unrest in the Portuguese capital but he was caught! In fact their espionage has been amazingly successful, though ultimately futile.

I am hoping the next dictator will be able to finish off the war quickly. There are plenty of troops (though our trebuchet force has suffered from attrition) and galleons for transport. Sun Tzu is a mega-oromo who can be freely promoted all the way up to mechanised infantry (he's on a galleon off the Portuguese coast by the way)

We captured loads of workers and I kinda ran out of projects for them so we now have a good road network at least.

I also suspect I intercepted an Alphan caravel just too late to stop him dropping off a spy, so we must assume the worst - that they are mapping us. There's also a snooping Viking caravel we need to sink.

Our research is good, and we have over 1000 gold in the bank. We completely dominate Alpha in espionage. We ought to be able to make good use of that information in the future - I was too preoccupied with Portugal and exploration to do them any great harm (but who knows what those caravels were carrying?) - but perhaps the real damage will come from war weariness? Difficult to predict.

The latest save from Alpha:-

As the interregnum of Reichskanzler Konrad II I/II between the reign of Tones III and Jerm III turned out to be longer than expected, I feel obliged to give a proper end-of-term national address.

Fellow Dictators! Omegans! Countrymen!

The long struggle which Konrad II began in the forges of our military-industrial complexes and Tones III took to the battlefields of Portugal has finally been won! Portugal has been put under the iron boot and pressed down into the annals of history! The Portuguese civilization is gone and forgotten, their verdant plazas turned into drilling grounds for the next generation of stormtroopers!

Meanwhile, the Omegan Empire has expanded and cities have finally been founded on the western end of the Omegan continent. Virtually all of it flies under the green banner, while the blue banner of Alpha only has been brought to three conquered Japanese cities to date.

Also, the interregnum has been marked by unprecedented social progress. We have introduced this concept called a "Free Market" - how surprising it may sound, our mushroom cloud headed scientists have come to the conclusion that shooting any merchants who refuse to cooperate with the state actually causes economic inefficiency in the long run. But what is an even more revolutionary discovery is, that it is not always even worth it to shoot dissenters on sight! This new concept we call "Free Speech" means that the people say what they want, and we dictators do what we want. Simple, huh? Finally, a new policy called "Theocracy" has been implemented to protect Omega against Jewish influence. It has come to our attention that, now when the Alphans have constructed this institution called the "Apostolic Palace", they would easily defeat us through what they call a "Diplomatic victory" if Judaism would spread even to one Omegan city. For this reason, Omega must remain a theocracy until the end of time, and any captured Jewish city be razed immediately, without exception.

During the interregnum, we have established ourselves as the undisputed rulers of the seas by taking naval technology further by the construction of a fleet of six frigates. It has come to our attention that Alpha is doing likewise to break through our naval blockade and into the ocean, but even before they have started to do so, we have started constructing Ships of the Line, the ultimate in naval warfare. Our first ship of the line, OSS The End, is on its way towards the Alphan coast as we speak.

But control of the seas is not an end in itself, but a means towards a greater goal: Attacking the Alphan continent, using our control of the seas to strike, raze and retreat until they die from a thousand cuts. Our first expedition has assembled for this purpose in the former Portuguese capitol. With it are Sun Tzu, the Fighting Firteenth, and the 1st, 3rd and 4th Stormtroopers. All of them are veterans of the Portuguese war, and among the best troops in existence. All of them but Sun Tzu have further been upgraded with grenades: Iron spheres which go boom and cause great carnage, truly a testament to the mad genius that is the basis of Omegan greatness!

Let the world tremble, for Omega sails to war!

Positively poetic Konrad!

Suggestions for Dictator jerm?

It may be worth building a bunch of privateers to join the blockade and make some money. Protected by our bigger ships, with one outside each Alphan port they may last quite some time. We wouldn't have to worry about Japanese or Viking ships picking them off since they won't have the technology for decades. They can also, as I think Konrad suggested, protect our coastline from snooping "friendlies".

What's the best thing to do espionage-wise? We want to maintain our healthy lead and stealing tech is very expensive. I have always felt that poisoning or causing unhappiness is fairly pointless unless you can hit a city multiple times. Destroying towns is good I suppose but really our biggest asset is the ability to investigate each Alphan city and it is essential we maintain that as it allows us to raid much more effectively. We can also see the damage we're doing causing starvation and the like which is really satisfying

Well, maintain the naval blockade, and start raiding! We have a lead in military tech at the moment, and it will grow bigger when we get Steel in a few turns.

Our commerce cities are probably better off building commerce/research buildings, but our less commercial industrial complexes could do well to raise another raiding force consisting of grenadiers and cannons. We have the tech lead, Alpha is tied down in Japan. Is not now a good time to strike?

If I would continue playing, I would assemble a second raiding force in Luger Lagoon (yeah, the city just recently built on the mouth of River Cleo): Get 3-4 stray galleons there, load 'em up with grenadiers and cannons, and sail off to put the hurt on Alpha!

As for espionage, I agree totally that city visibility is the best use of espionage points ever. If Alpha is researching a tech which we don't have, we probably should steal it from them via Omega THIS! (the only Hindu city they have), but there's little point in sending spies there in advance, we'd only risk capture. Oh, and for that reason, it might be a good idea to leave Omega THIS! standing rather than raze it. It's not like its existence brings that big benefits to Alpha anyway.

Oh, and one more thing, get the Taj Mahal built. I got Nationalism so late in my reign that I forgot to start constructing it

Omegans! Yet another glorious era ends as I, Konrad III, lay aside the heavy burden of dictatorship and withdraw to the hospice for retired megalomaniacs.

Our great nation continues to progress. We have mastered the art of metallurgy, allowing us to cast even bigger guns, and build drydocks which will give us even better, even more powerful ships! The Alphan shipyards are steaming with activity, as they frantically try to seize naval supremacy from us. However, our first ship of the line, OSS The End, has just arrived at the theatre of war!

But it is not only at sea where our troops go from victory to victory. A force of crack troops; including Sun Tzu's Musketeers, The Fighting Firteenth and the 1st, 3rd and 4th Stormtroopers; have attacked and razed the Alphan city of Dave Coast. Even as I speak, they have boarded their ships to continue the raiding. The first blow has been struck, but it is hardly the last, for Alpha is an obstacle on the path of glory, and shall die from a thousand cuts! Glory to Omega! Hail to the Eternal Stormtrooper!

*crowds cheer, stormtroopers fire into the air*
*crowd disperses*
*cleaning staff starts clearing up the rally site*

Where is my successor? Ah, there you are, grasshopper. You probably wonder what's going on. Well, there are a few things. The Alphans just got their 3rd frigate in Palpa. Our two blockading frigates, OSS Richtmark and OSS Warlord, retreated just out of striking range of the frigates. I hoped to lure the three Alphan frigates into pursuit. If they do, OSS The End is positioned to attack the pursuers. With one ship of the line and two level 3 frigates, their three level 1 frigates should sink easily.

Other than that, one enemy frigate has escaped out of Artypolis. Unfortunately an earlier naval battle there left OSS Predator damaged, and it still needs a round of repair. I wasn't able to stop the current frigate from moving out, so I'm using the caravel to keep an eye on its whereabouts.

On the Alphan west coast, our elite raiding force is aboard three galleons, escorted by the frigates OSS Sanguinary and OSS Kickstart. It has several valid targets, but be warned that there is a force of 5 Alphan knights somewhere in the area. If you intend on razing Sea Food City, you should probably park the army on the hill next to it to discourage counterattack. Oh, and maybe you should leave Omega THIS! to stand. It's their only Hindu city, which makes it a good target for espionage operations.

Speaking of espionage, our newest great spy Foshaug the Deceiver is aboard The Lusty Oar, on his way to be dropped off somewhere in Alphaland. Try to see it that his ship does not get sunk on the way. When he well gets there, I suggest we just use him as a scout. There are still quite a few things covered by the fog of war. Our raids would be even more effective if we could have knowledge of the position of possible intercepting Alphan forces in the vicinity.

As for long-term plans, I think we are at quite the crossroads. There are many valid ways we can go. Personally I think we should at least keep the raids on Alpha at the level where they will be unable to concentrate their military effort on Japan properly. If we can keep them on their toes like that and prevent them from expanding, we will out-research them in the long run with the commercial output of an entire continent.

Oh, and DON'T let a situation ever happen where we have a Jewish city. It would practically guarantee them a diplomatic victory. Never ever switch away theocracy, and raze every single Jewish city you come across.

Dear lovely fellow Dictators,

I has been a blast. Really.

And the blasts have been the best bit.

I especially like the exploding enemies. They have done quite a bit of that.

During my time as Ultimate Dictator we have further consolidated our position as rightful world rulers.

We have contained the enemy militarily, and at home ensured our dominance by incorporating Sid's Sushi.

BY 1755 we had discovered Railroad; Admiral Yamamoto was born in 1765 thanks to our successful military camaign and in 1770 we finally revealed the secrets of Combustion.

Citadel Of Gods (GREAT OMEGAN DICTATORS, geddit?) emerged as a powerful addition to our empire, and Gigaton, appropriate to its name, evolved as the premiere production powerhouse of the whole Empire.

Finally, in 1800AD, we stand upon the beginning of a new Golden Age - an age where we shall soon prove our supremacy.

Can anyone deny this future?

Yes, I suppose they could. But this will not happen - for we have a proven leadership.

HAIL the next, most glorious OMEGAN DICTATOR

in the meantime

goodnight. Carry on. I do not expect to see leadership again.
