I love the GOTMs so much

Before signing up, I was in something of a difficulty level trap. I had mastered Monarch to the extent where I won almost every game, but was getting repeatedly pummeled on Emperor to the extent where the game just weighed down on me. I even got so tired of being pummelled that I had to put Civ4 on the shelf for a while and check out Halo for some variety

There's no question whether I'm able to win a Prince level game, but it doesn't matter, since I'm competing against humans. Now, even when a game has come to the point where there's no question of whether I will win, it doesn't devolve into a tiresome slugging match of how-many-enemies-will-I-still-have-to-conquer, but into a frantic race to win as quickly as possible, knowing that each turn counts.

Now, if you excuse me, I have a Viking Empire to lead to world conquest

Yeah, but it's not like it gets in the way. I play a standard-speed game in 7-8 hours, and GOTMs happen only once a month.

I agree completely.  Work has gotten in the way of me doing a lot of this one yet (In the 1500s, maybe?), but I went to war in this one much earlier than I ever would normally JUST because I know I need to win quicker than normal if I'm to reclaim my rightful title of GOTM winner.    Its fun, huh?

Sounds like you're just playing way below your comfort level. Wouldn't it be more exciting to have GOTMs on emperor when it would be a question of CAN you win, not how fast can you win? Leave prince to others who still find it a challenge...

It would be fun to play the next one at Emperor level.  There are some on occassion who do lose, so it wouldn't be very fun for them if they ALL were on Monarch difficulty, but for some of us, it might be fun now and then.

Just to spur you guys on, I finished this one in 1830AD, with just over 47,000 points. You're gonna need those fast ships now, mates.

I don't understand why you guys are so motivated to get so good at these games so fast. Seems like a damn waste of good game dollars investment to me

Yes, Zig. Wouldn't it be more fun if you sucked?

Heh, if I sucked I would just blame it on the lacking realism of certain game mechanics, and read Pravda online instead of a strategy article or two...
