Here Here!!!!

I am getting the BtS this weekend, and would like to jump start a locked alliance two on two slug fest type of game (NO AI!!!!!). Custom maps not necessary, but if anyone has something they'd like to try or design, I'd be open to suggestion.

SwordintheStorm seemed interested in this when I mentioned it before the holiday so I'll give him first dibs, if he shows up here in the next couple days before I get the game, otherwise that leaves two people I am looking for.

I know PBEMs can be a real hassle to complete, usually people drop out, but for the record, no PBEM has ever been dropped on account of me!

So I am looking for serious Civvers only, who wont drop out or disappear. You know who you are!

We can discuss the terms of the game whence we have the participants.

Put me down as a tentative player...

However, I will be unable to play for about 6 weeks from end of June until early August. So if that's a problem i'll need a stand-in for that time. Else I'll let someone else take the spot.

Yeah I like the sound of this, I'm interested!

I would be happy to play with pretty much whatever settings.

...Plus I am reliable!

Haha, just kidding. I'll mark you two down, dave that shouldn't be a problem.

if we hear from sword, then we can start in on the details.
cheers.

Haha... a good point.  Blame it on the fact that my postgraduate research wasn't best of friends with my civ "research"! But now that I'm free... it's on!!

LOL...

I just don't want to hold the game up if it does take us a number of months to play through. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it...

If there is no AI then difficulty level won't matter?

I'd imagine so. I am not drastically opposed to having AI, I just thought it would be more fun that way. If majority want AI I won't be against it.

What I really want to know though is when I upload BtS to my computer, will it not allow me to play any m ore Warlord games? I know peoples had some problems with that kind of thing, and I really do want t finish my British Empire game before screwing up Warlords...
Cheers.

ADDIT

I think it'll run fine LC. Warlords will run as a separate application. I did have problems, but it was not really from installing BTS, it was from corrupted files, or something like that. I consequently just uninstalled Warlords altogether. The cool thing about having them both on there is that the map files should more or less work b/w the two apps, though there could be some problems with the mods.

If Sword doesn't speak up, I'm in. I'd love to pair up with ComedyDave.

Re game settings. I think climate should just be temperate, not random. I'm not sure we' want the map to be random, though I think random civs is good. Totally random map includes things like Ice Age, Oasis, Highlands, Inland Sea.

If we want some degree of randomnicity, I think Shuffle might be best option (random generates either Pangeaa, Archipelago, Continents, or Fractal).

I'll play with whatever, but my personal preference would be a Terra map. Hopefully this match will go on for years, and be fascinating for that whole time, and if there is a New World for us to compete in colonizing it will DEFINITELY make the late Rennaissance through Space Age far more interesting. Any map except Terra means that MOST of the land mass will be discovered if not settled by one of us before Mid Ages. This to me is not as fun for the later game. With a Terra map we all know there is another Hemisphere out there to be discovered, so being an 'explorative' civ is one strategic option.

Other ideas: Standard size is probably fine, but  I kind of don't like the idea of no AI. One interesting possibility would be to have it be large Terra, but put Barbs on Raging. A large map with only four humans, and raging barbs would keep us all busy fighting off barbs and give them plenty of room to develop Barb cities, while minimizing early human-vs-AI exploits.

Everything else default is fine IMO. If this is not really what you had in mind LC, no problem. Of course I'll back off and let you play your game the way you like

It will, it will! You'll still get the happiness/ health handicaps and barbs that go along with the level...

I would wait for the patch that's tentatively in the making. 3.13 sucks, it has so many bugs. If you don't want to wait, you may want to consider playing the HOF mod.

Ah yes. The HOF mode. Installed that for the BTS GOTM at CivFanatics. Must be why I cannot load a Charlemagne PBEM turn from Tones?

BTW, that Prince level Ethiopia BOTM at Civ Fanatics is a really fun map.
