Closed: Champion: rgndvo

Here we go, fellas! Now I want a nice clean game here with no hits below the belt...

Submissions are due by 11:59pm Eastern US time on Feb. 29th. Good luck, all!

Monarch difficulty with more aggressive AI (I find this makes it slightly more challenging)
Standard size world
Random world shape/water distribution
Roaming Barbarians
world seed: mccain4prz (first thing that popped into my mind)
average climates and world age
All default victory conditions
Allow cultural conversions
Allow Scientific leaders

We are Lincoln of the Americans. Here is our start position - may you use it well.

And here is the save, may it bring you enjoyment!

Successful submissions thus far:
Rgndvo the Lionhearted. 2513 points, Domination in 1944

Seems so weird to see a Civ3 screenshot after so long!

Psweet - do you want me to review the submissions as usual? I won't be able to review them until I complete my go - so I better get cracking!

Darn it - no submission for me - a Time Limit Loss... made it all the way to 2050AD.

Score 995.

Wonder if anyone else has tried this game?

The map really did me in. Being located so remotely from the other civs meant no-one to trade with. Hence I was behind in tech for the entire game. Only reached the modern era in the 2040's.

The Romans ran the show in the early Eras, although the Ottomans came out on top in the end, from the Industrial Era onwards.

I had no access to Oil or Coal, which sucked!

Managed to conquer the Russians in the late game which boosted my score a little. Had a decent army of Infantry and Artillery near the end, but needed Planes and Tanks to really make an impact.

Domination Victory

I took out the Russians early on with swords.  Got a military leader towards the end and saved him for later.  Landed him with a stack of cavalry on the roman island.  Got real lucky getting two more leaders building 3 armies in total and wiped out the romans after a little bit of trouble with their huge stacks of legionares.

The ottomans and koreans were the only serious contenders after that.  I figured if I landed my cav armies with infantry on the ottoman shores I could at least pillage a bunch of improvments, especially with the formidable siphapis.  The resistance wasnt much though and they were also being hit by the koreans so taking their continent was easy.

The koreans were scary though as they were right with me in techs (and beat me to theory of evolution).  They only were occupying 28% of the world area so I knew I could get domination without taking them on but needed to keep them from attacking me.  So I hurried and took out the other small civs left and paid to rush temples.  Fortunately, the koreans never got randy.

I'll take care of the submissions, Dave. Think of this as your vacation, if you will. Tough luck on your attempt, though.

Viewing R's submission now, will edit after confirmation.

Aaaaand....

Domination victory, 1944, Rgndvo the Lionhearted. 2513 points. Congrats Rgn, that puts you in first place. :p

As that I am currently at 1970s and have not won, that likely means I will not win the GotM (wow there's a shocker, eh boys?) but I have not yet lost!  And more importantly, I am playing!

Almost done...

The Mongols wiped out the Koreans in my reality.  The Romans and Ottomans are the powerhouses here as well...the Mongols are big and scary but behind in tech.  I took out the Russians with rifles and cannon and the Romans started a WWI war with me...but after I chased them away I made peace and started island hopping all over for resources.  It's getting on toward 2000 and I have tanks but not quite bombers.  Romans are over the horizon in tech...could lose by space, I suppose

The romans were a toughie in mine as well.  I initially landed with about 20 cavs and one cav army but they came at me with about 50 or more med inf and praetorians.  I wasnt able to hold cities at all at first so I pillaged with the army and then would take a city... with no roads the "stack" took several turns to come over which I would pick off a little bit all along the way and then pull all my units out of the city when it was all but lost and go take another nearby city.  I expected a pushover and got a very formidable civ.

All right guys...

I had a computer incident...it was pretty awful.  I ended up having to do a factory reset...sadly that ends up taking everything out of (or at least breaking connection to) everything that was in Program Files.  This killed my install of CivIII and I think I accidentally deleted the place that had the saved games...

See...Civ IV uses the My Documents...I er...forgot that Civ III didn't.

Regardless...my save is gone.  I was already in 1970s so there was no way to beat the current scores.  I would have won (probably), but score, no.  Here's to next month

Well, I'm late on the uptake here, but seeing as Rgndvo is the only one who was able to submit a saved game, I hereby pronounce him the winner of the February GOTM. Congrats, Rgn!

Sorry to hear about the computer, Leo. I hope you were able to get it running back at it's former efficiency, at least? Hope you're able to complete next month's, which I'll probably set up some time this week.
