Alright, well in short, I recently receive Civilization 4; Beyond the Sword, the first few games I played as some of the newer civs they introduced and then I went back to good ole' England. After this I went to Rome, this is where it gets interesting, I was moving an Attack Sub when the game crashed. It gave me two messages, one saying the game has asked Runtime to end the program in an unusual way, and the other telling me the graphics failed to load. I thought it might be just a glitch in the game, but when I went back I played a couple of turns and then the game crashes and I receive the same two messages. I then decided it would be best to start another game. I was Rome this time and I was doing fine until I hit the 100- Turns. At turn 94 the game crashes again. I am now saving every turn, and the game keeps on crashing. If there is a patch or a way to fix this please tell me. I will get a screen shot and the messages on this post later today.

P.S. Hey to everyone that I know!

Hey Gen. White!  Good yo have you back.  It's been a while a while since you've shown your face around here.

Now...to your problem.  I've had this problem before too, but it doesn't happen anymore.  First off, I'd recomend uninstalling and re-install everything, meaining Beyond the Sword and Vanilla.  Once that's done, install all the patches.  I know this is a bunch of lost time, but it worked for me.

Worst comes to worst, if the problem presists, it might actually be your hardware.  What are your system specs?  I'm running a P4 3.0 ghz with 1.5 gigs ram and a 128 ATI Saphire 9600XT graphics card.  You can always turn down the graphics settings in the options menu (turn of low detail terain, lower graphics quality, lower resolution, single unit graphics, quick combat, no combat zone, no videos, etc...).

Hope your issue is resolved soon so you can try out this months GOTM.  It's a beast...one where the AI thrives on ganging up and destroying you lol and welcome back!!!

Thanks for the welcome, it's good to see people remember me still =).

My computer's spec I don't really know, I will have to find those. I have been playing Civ4 since Christmas and never had any problems until I downloaded Civ4; Beyond the Sword. I tried turning the graphics but the problem still showed up. I am gonna try cleaning the CD and running the game again and if it crashes then I will have the screen shot of the error messages up. I will also get the specs on my computer. Thanks for your reply.

Edit: It crashed again...it wouldn't let me take the screen shots because it said there was not enough available memory. I clicked the "Ok" button on each of the messages and then checked my memory. I have more than I will ever use on this computer... After concluding my computer unhelpful I went to completely uninstall Civ4, along with Civ4 BTS. I uninstalled BTS with no difficulties and then when I started to uninstall Civ4 I received an error message (go figure) I have a screen shot of it below.

So, now I not only does Civ4 crash but I can't uninstall it...

Edit: and now the game doesn't start...It appears trying to uninstall Civ4 makes it angry at you...

Wow!  Arn't you full of bad luck!  Instead of trying to uninstall it, just find the cIV folder on your hard drive (probably under C:\Porgram Files) and delete the folder manualy.  Then go to 'Add/Remove Programs' in the control pannel and remove cIV from there too.  After that, try installing it.

Well, there is one good piece of luck that came out of this - we know that its not your computer, but corrupt files that are causing this.  Try what I just said and let me know what happens.

Ok, it now won't let me reinstall. It says that Civilization4 needs to be un-installed before I can install Civ4 again. I took it off the hard drive at least, maybe it will be a step in the right direction after all... I will mess with it more tomorrow, I am off to sleep now.

Make sure you go to 'Add/Remove Programs' in the control pannel and remove cIV from there too; this might be the reason why your computer still thinks its on your computer.

Worst comes to worst...just try installing it in a different directory.  If you have multiple hard drives, install it on a different one or just change the location/names of the folder.  For example - C:/Program Files/cIV new copy/...

First try what I said about the control pannel.

Good luck!

I am also getting this error.  Actually, it's interspersed with a Windows exception and a report to microsoft, for which I believe the actual error is the Video Memory Failed to load error.

According to some posts on Appolyton this has been ongoing for some time for quite a few people.

I run an Athlon 64 dual core processor with 1gb of memory.  I am running Windows XP home, SP 3 and am fully updated.  I have an Nvidia 7300 GS video card and it has the latest video drivers.

After returning from a crash, I can run flawlessly for about 3 to 4 turns and then it crashes.  This has been going on since I installed the game last week (the whole enchilada, Civ IV, Warlords and BTS).

Here's what it's doing:

Once I end my turn, the game begins to process.  Then, somewhere along the line, usually right before the game returns to me, the screen goes black, my video settings are reset to 800x600, 4 bit color; I get a 3-color spinning world (cursor); then Windows reporting tool pops up (alternatively, one out of every 4 or 5 times, I get the Video Failed to Load dialog instead of Windows reporting); after the report is sent, I am returned to my desktop where I cannot reset my video settings and must reboot; after which, my settings are returned to normal.

Now, I routinely run multitudes of games on my computer including graphically intensive games (World of Warcraft specifically) and I don't believe that this is something wrong with my computer or my drivers.  However, I don't know what to do about it as there is no way to get support from Firaxis who tells you to talk to 2K who doesn't even list Civ 4: BTS as a product for which support is available.

I appreciate any help offered :-)
