Greetings all.. this game for the Beyond the Sword CivIV expansion...

Version: 3.13

Large map with ONLY 3 rivals. Expand to your hearts content.... of course, expansion has its burdens..

Your Civ is America... Your Leader is:

Settings:

Note the "No Tech Brokering"

Traits:

Start Position:

Victory Conditions

All Victories have been enabled and all will be accepted

Highest Normalized Score in any of the accepted Victory Conditions will be declared BTS GOTM Champion for March.

When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. You may post the screenshot in the GOTM thread and then Email your final save (hopefully one just before victory) to me. Saves should be named as follows: [username]March08BTS.CivBeyondSwordSave

The Email address to send the GOTM is my username @1bcciv.com ... Of course, instead of "my username" of course I mean the name I post with here at 1bc.

Submissions will be accepted until the end of March.

Everyone please follow the instructions above: Post your score screenshot here in this thread and email the save to me. This makes it easier to determine how everyone stands and what the current standard is scorewise if I get held up in the verification of save files. Thanks.

What are the rules?
The rules are fairly simple: Play fairly.

This means that you play within the spirit of the competition. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Any persons found to be cheating will have their games removed, and there is a strong possibility that they will be banned from participating in the future.

Cheating includes (and is not limited to):

  1. Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, the replaying then starting the game again).
  2. Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files.
  3. Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage.
  4. Reloading an earlier save-file and replaying turns in a different way. The only time you may reload a save file is to start a new play session, and you must use the save file from the end of your previous session.

Also, if in doubt, ask. If you think you have found a new loop-hole or exploit, then we strongly suggest that you ask as to its legallity before you use it. The aim of the competition is not to see who can exploit the rules, and as such, we reserve the right to disqualify submissions based on exploits that are discovered later.

Good Luck all...

Oh... almost forgot..

I have already played this one and won a cultural victory in July, 1978. The score is about what you would expect from a cultural victory in '78, but with these settings any victory is acceptable:

I also had the Top 4 Cities:

I'll post details later when people have had a chance to get into the game.

Greetings. I have lurking in the
shadows for a bit just reading topics.

I think I will try this one out. At the
prince level, however.. I usually only
have a 30% victory ratio as not falling
behind on techs takes alot of care and planning
as I continue to develop my skills.

(the strategy on this game is amazingly complex)

The start looks pretty good. I like all those hills
and the corn right there. Copper or Steel would
be even sexier if it turns out to be there.

With the huge room available on this map..
I am believing cultural or space race will
be the way to go.

Wish a newb some luck

 Unfortunately losing cultural victory
in 1996

Spoiler Text Below - Highlight to See Hidden Text
Started off well with alot of early wonders
including the Pyramids, Great Wall, Oracle, ect.
If I had to do it again, however, I wish I would
have placed my third city in a different spot for
better production and micro-managed the GP
production a little better. I really could have
used more engineers and less priests. Past
those opening hills.. there really is nothing but
food resources for miles. Even so, I managed
to found 4 religions..which always makes going into
mid-game much easier.

I was also the first to discover liberalism and
suprisingly kept neck to neck with techs.
A very close culture race between myself and
everybody's favorite tech-whore, Masu Masu was at mid-game.However..
I probably should have had a bit more discipline
to shift out of build mode when I spied Ragnar
with tons of scary Calvary and the Viking
homeland not far from my shores. And as fate
would have it, Monties' long lost cousin planted
a nice stack of artillery, rifles, and legions
of calvary right on American shores. While I repelled
this invasion and took back the city he had
captured as a beach head, I never recovered
the culture loss.. as I had to switch to
war mode for quite a few turns until ol'
hornhead would let me buy him off to leave me alone.

Late game, as I got Industrialism, hornhead went
after Masu.. and was doing a good job sacking cities
right and left. However.. he had Apostle Palace and
managed to get Churchill to stop the war. If the
war would have continued.. I might have stood a chance.

Still, live and learn... fun game.

Had fun killing a few hours on my day off, though..

I love how when one event sometimes pops up.. It
is usually in the middle of a build phase when I
try to tech Priesthood and. neglect archery early
on. Then all of the sudden you have a stack of 4
axemen or spearmen comming at your cities gaurded
with a STR 2 warrior or two. Best case.. you lose
any tiny bit of infrastructure you may have had
before you can get archers out. Worst case.. you
lose a city.. and are in a very deep hole.. or
even lose outright. I have seen that happen.

Wish you luck next time.

-edit

Imagine if this map wouldve had raging barbs... nasty..

This one looks fun. With all that room, I'm gonna try my darndest to construct the Great Wall
