One guy starts up a game as a multi-player, play by email game. Tribes can be set to play AI or human, and can be random or not. That player then starts the game, creates a password for their tribe, plays their first turn, and saves it. Then sends that .sav file by email to the opponent (or _next_ opponent if there are multiple humans in a row). That guy receives it by email, downloads it into their .savs folder, and opens the .sav creating a password for their tribe too. Plays the turn, and also saves it then sending it to the next guy. Ad infinitum. I've been involved in PBEMs that lasted for over two years of sending turns round-and-round among 7 or 8 guys. This was playing a modern world scenario with lots of units and stuff to do right from the beginning. A randomly generated epic game (starting from 4000 BC) can be kinda slow and tiresome at first. One of the beauties of Civ4 is the ability to generate ancient age starts that have some advanced start points so that this early game tedium is alleviated a bit.

tones (9/1/2009) I was minded to compare this site to a sort-of-private Facebook, but, on reflection, that's not right . . . Nope. Here is a forum to exchange views and discuss topics and maybe have some literary fun; post some interesting pics (not Megabits of family krap); flag up some internet sites of Interest; pass on the occasional joke. To me, (struggling for analogy here) it's bit more like a quiet and cosy pub with locals you know and the occasional visitor from "outside"; thick stone walls and a cellar full of well-kept ale. Facebook, on the other hand, is some awful massive city-centre club that serves Fosters lager. And, you know what? I am not unhappy with that analogy. I prefer the pub.
