Omega's peace treaties expired this turn and so, in jumped our diplomats...

Ooh... we accept!!

As it happens we were only 1 turn away from Nationalism anyway but, ah well. They only just got it this turn themselves and I think they were researching something else, it quite possibly came from the Omega fund? They're at war with each other now anyway!! On the tech front Japan is way behind though, with Education, Printing Press and Astronomy, we should possibly think about giving them these ourselves so they can catch up.

And in other continental news, we told Ragnar that he was worth exactly one Copper... he agreed!

Here is the new state of international affairs:

Nice! Ragnar is now researching Rifling too and we've set out to get Military Tradition (Currasiers, Cavalry). Although they started out on 6 turns and after the end of the turn they were on 7 turns, so who knows when they'll get it.

In national news - Welcome to Nebula City!

And the news from our ship in far away waters:

Tee-hee!

One thing of concern though. Now that we can see what Ragnar sees his (maybe soon to be overun?) outpost on Omega's continent is a very useful lookout point, and this is what it has seen:

Hmm, probably time to get plenty of defensive units over to the east. We really need cannons too so we can upgrade and smash a few Omegan stacks. Thoughts on Military Tradition (to combat their presumed imminent big horses) vs. Steel (Cannons and later tasty defensive Ironclads)?

So do you want to take this on from here NC? (Or Bis?)

I'd say keep going. I have to work tonight (almost always off Fridays) and as its night shift, I will be useless most of tomorrow and have to work Sunday again, so I wouldn't be around but for a few turns anyways, at best.

Its cool that we get to see that incoming fleet. Definitely send stuff to our east coast in preparation! That is probably loaded with Cavalry, I'd guess.

In fact, it might be worth throwing away our frigates in attacking them before they land, so we don't face as many superior-units.

Well we just got another great engineer so I used him to start a golden age. And as the Japanese built the Mausoleum of Maussollos in Cowtown we get 12 turns instead of 8. Nice!

I have used the no anarchy in a golden age rule to switch to Police State (+25% unit production and -50% war weariness) and Nationhood (Can draft 3 units per turn) to help out our war effort, it definately seems like time to turn on 'full defence mode'. Certainly looks like we've got an industrial monster on our hands now! I'm concerned that war weariness might eventually start to hurt us, like it did with the Japanese, especially with their Statue of Zeus. Hopefully having Police State will help to limit that and let's hope they start to feel it soon themselves, as most of the fighting has been in our territory!

One problem now is we have to consider where the fleet we sighted is heading, it may be coming straight for the east coast or it could decide to go around the Viking lands to our northern coast. Or, since they "know we know they know we know they..." they may change its plans entirely? We're pumping out the defenders at full capacity but it's all about the positioning. Unfortunately we haven't got the ships to get to the galleons before they make landfall, unless we get lucky.

Oh and, as expected, they flattened the Viking outpost this turn. Must have been the passing fleet taking an unplanned pitstop with that kind of response time!! So perfect timing for us to spot them right at that moment... not so good for Ragnar though!

They might not piece-together that we saw that fleet.

If I was running their turns, it probably would not have crossed my mind that we would see what our vassals saw.

The problem with switching to Nationhood is that our science will be even worse now and we're already pretty far behind. I'm not particularly big on this move, but you're the pres.

The good thing about the golden age is we've got 12 turns (well after the minimum 5 or so) in which we can switch civic(s) back if we want, with no anarchy again. But it is Police State (rather than Nationalism, which I wouldn't have switched it for) that replaces Representation and I think the +25% unit production just swings it? So I agree the science bonus was very nice especially with Mercantilism, but now for 1 turn later until cuirassiers we can knock a turn off all cities unit production. As unit production overdrive definately wants to be a temporary thing, maybe we just do it for the duration of our golden age then switch back? Takes the edge off the GA research boost but with Omegan fleets like that prowling around...
