Rhye’s and Fall of the Ottoman Empire

Chapter 1- The Birth of a Nation (1270 AD – 1349 AD)

1270 AD, Constantinopolis-

Centuries have gone by, and as the passage of time so often does, the warts and wrinkles of Byzantium have been exposed. A crumbling state of affairs is now the domain of the last vestiges of Roman hegemony in the east. A relative calm hovers about the Balkan peninsula, but the same cannot be said for the restless Turkic tribes of Anatolia.

1280 AD, Southwestern Anatolia-

A relatively rural region, with scant Byzantine presence, the time and location are ripe for a swelling of Turkic pride. A congregation of people plant their flag in the hills overlooking the great sea and declare that no Roman will be their master. The town of Sögüt has been established. Already threatened by internal strife, Byzantium will not be affronted by such a meager presence. A state of war is declared between the ancien regime and the upstart rebel rousers. The siege on Constantinopolis, brought upon by the freedom fighters of Sögüt, has begun.

1290 AD, Sögüt-

The past 10 years have not been easy for the young Turks. Constantinopolis has proved to be an impenetrable fortress, raging cannon fire has not yet been sufficient to soften up city defences to a point wherein a large scale assault on the city would be feasible. Meanwhile, to the east, a looming threat from Byzantium forces in the area requires the inhabitants to keep their guard up. An unexpected raid on the fields to the east of the town center has resulted in a tragic loss of life.

But word has spread to the natives. Emboldened by word of an epic struggle for existence, and facilitated by the meager military presence of an empire in distress, the Turkic peoples of eastern Anatolia shed their yoke and declare their independence from their Roman masters. The Turkic flag now proudly waves over the towns of Konya, Iskenderun and Trabzon. With the threat of Byzantine assault from the east removed, and peace secured with the Arab nation in the south, a full-scale invasion on Constantinopolis has been planned.

1310 AD, Eastern Anatolia-

Not satisfied with the answers provided for by local superstitions, the peoples of Anatolia yearn for something more. Word has spread to Konya of the promise of the ages, Christ the son of God. A small Christian community has been established. In Iskenderun, Arab missionaries too, speak of a mono-God, but carry the message of the most praiseworthy, Muhammad, Seal of the Prophets, founder of Islam. For mainly political reasons, the leaders of the new Turkic nation declare Islam their state religion, and so as to promote unity within their populace establish a mission to spread Islam to all corners of the realm.

1320 AD- Mesopotamia, between the rivers Tigris and Euphrates-

Shortly after the foundation of Sögüt, restless Turks, eager to flee the oppressive Roman regime flocked upon their new Turkish safe haven. Now that the Byzantine empire has collapsed, the time has come for these migrants to return to their roots. To the east, a hardy band of settlers have been sent out with all the food and equipment necessary to trek a dangerous trek and start a new life on the Turkish frontier. The first to arrive have settled between two rivers, once the source of ancient civilizations. Behold, the vilayet of Bagdat, founded in 1320 AD.

1330 AD- Constantinopolis/Istanbul-

Meanwhile, the last bastion of Roman sovereignty, Constantinopolis, subjected to 50 years of fire by the young Turks, has finally given way to the benevolence of the mighty. The remnant overlords of the West have been evicted in favor of a far superior culture of the East. A united Anatolia, under the banner of her rightful owners, once the dream of a downtrodden tribe is now a reality, and only a sign of great things to come. The Turkish City on Seven Hills, Istanbul, has been born!

Chapter 2- Consolidation of the Balkans (1350 AD-1410 AD)

1350 AD- On the Shores of the Adriatic-

With the Bosphorous Strait secure, the young Turks would not be content to confine their expansion eastwards. No, Turkish hegemony must extend westwards; a buffer must be established between the homeland and the uncouth tribes of the West. The successful settlement of Bagdat hath inspired a new phase of expansion for the Turkish nation, and with it, the securement of the Balkan Peninsula. On the northern eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea, in the year, 1350 AD, the town of Diraç now carries the Turkish flag.

1380 AD- Anatolia

Grand celebrations are held in Istanbul and other cities across Anatolia commemorating the centennial anniversary of the birth of the Turkish nation. İyi Bayramlar!

1400 AD- Onwards, The Road to Athens-

The independent city-state of Athens is all that remains of Eastern Roman pride in the realm of that which once was. But there is no place in the future for the glory of days gone by. As blowback for centuries of Byzantine dominance of Anatolia proper, Turkish dominion over the Greco-Roman gem of Athens must be established. The Siege of Athens has begun.

1405 AD- Sögüt

On the homefront, the seeds have been sown for the development of an illustrious Turkish economy, which is quite necessary for the sustainment of a burgeoning empire. Heavily influenced by the Arabo-Islamic neighbours to the South, banking establishments have flooded the Turkish commercial districts with newfound wealth. One can only imagine the good that will come from these endeavors!

1410 AD- Atina

A mere 10 years, and Athens, now Atina, can proudly call herself Turkish, for there can be no other feeling but pride when one hails under the banner of the Turkish empire. In this old city, plans are underway for a restoration of a once magnificent, but now crumbling monument, the Parthenon. For the greater glory of all things Turkic, this phase of expansion, the consolidation of the Balkans is complete. From Bagdat in the East to Diraç in the West, the nation of Türkiye rests upon a solid foundation, but the Ottoman rulers of this great empire do not rest upon their laurels, for they know that complacency will only result in humiliation. Inshallah, that will not happen, for the might of the dynasty of Uthman is strong, but their wisdom is even stronger...
