I have now read through just about all the Alphan posts. In (approx) 1060AD they have a map of the world which shows the Alphan continent and.... a lot of black. I am astonished at the lack of talk about a navy - OK it's mentioned a few times, but not with any sense of urgency. It must be blindingly obvious it will be a war of two continents but the realisation wasn't there as far as I can tell.

The other thing that struck me was their lack of espionage experience. They were warned once or twice (by CD I think), and tried to get a spy in every city, but what was needed was the espionage rate being cranked up. When we infiltrated, they assumed we had just landed a GS - not that we'd actually had him in country for years. Actually being able to crank the rate up is of course linked to the commerce/production balance which, as has already been mentioned, was dubious.

One other thing from the early years - their first Japanese war did not seem to go well. They lost an awful lot of Immortals - I thought they were supposed to be good units. They whole thing stalled. I don't think the war was prosecuted particularly well, but then I haven't studied all the screenshots or any saves. Then the Vikings and Japanese declared war and Alpha sat and watched. Probably a mistake; possibly a huge one. With the right timing Alpha could have taken all of Japan. They were even invited to take part by Ragnar! With those Japanese coastal cities and their resources at their disposal, Omegan domination of the seas would have been far,far harder to achieve.

Finally - use of GP's. Mongoose practically choked on his false teeth at one point I noticed, much to my amusement.

Indeed, tones. Did nobody of you Alphans think about incorporating Mining Inc? If you had saved the Great Engineer, you would have got it.

Yeah, we were dead sure you were going for Mining Inc and there was nothing we could really do about it.  Then you used your GE for a Golden Age... which only helped for a bit.  You could have put up a bit of a better production fight.  Then again, maybe you didn't want all the maintenance, which would have crippled your science output?

As long as it's a domestic corporation and Wall Street makes sure you get back a large part of the upkeep, getting the Mining Corp is strictly beneficial. You can always trade back hammers for research at a 1:1 rate using the "build research" option.

Hmmm..  well they can read our comments at the time. It was one of the few things we were concerned about.

Luckily they scre**d up.
