I'm new to CiV 4. I have the older vanilla version. One thing that didnt sit well with me is that with basic airports and flight I can suddenly airlift tanks across yhe world in one turn. Abstraction aside I'm sure these tanks represent at least a brigade or division. This changes the game balance. Tanks should be sea transport only. Isn't that why we have marines to rapidy deploy?

So is there a flag or something I can switch off on armoured units to take away their air transport capability.thanks

I agree, airlifting armor should only occur with the late 1980s Techs. As far as modding it, Civ4 is a totally new beast. No "editor" to speak of, but everything is editable. Basically, if you have the time and inclination to do a bit of 'coding' you can change anything in the game almost. I'd recommend you check out over at CivFanatics, they have an enormous amount of stuff on modding.

At least its a step up from Civ III. I remember once you took a city, you could instantly airlift dozens of units there. In Civ IV you can only send 1 unit to a city per turn. A bit more realistic.

If a tank is really a company of tanks, then an airplane is probably a 'flight' of airplanes, which many cargo planes could move a company. Regardless of the mentality they used, I'm sure they didn't want to over-complicate the game.

Actually, you can send only one unit from a city.  I don't think there is a limit on how many can be airlifted to a city.

I think you're wrong, Mr. Jerm. I'll have to check it out later though.

I believe its 1 from a city and 1 to a city. I'm about 99% sure you can only send 1 to a city. Well, in Civ IV BTS, at least.
