Stonehenge gamble

Started next to a stone resource?

Settle on top of it, & make Mysti ur tech (followed by Masy). Time it take u to research that, build warrior/settler/warrior/Stonehenge (even better is coastal w/fish (if u can fish), then do boat/settler/Stonehenge). Settle ur 2nd near 2 food sources (u gonna need rediculous growth, bcz wondering right from start hinders ur growth). Oh but the benefits . Add ur profets as specialists (each profet=gem mine, dont research techs w/'em). Automatic culture is a boon to any uncreative, unimaginative, retarded leader. By the time Calendar comes around, u should have a strong foothold on things.

You need to zip the file if you are able to. A .rar file will work as well.

If you don't have the ability to do so, email the save to me and I'll do it.

On Gilgamesh

He is a pretty cool leader. Sumeria starts w/agro (1/3 of major food techs) & wheel on the tech front & a warrior on the unit side. U can keep a worker busy for some time w/ these techs, so u have some flexability as to which tech path to persue. I personally like going for Animal Husbandry as tech #1. Situation assesment in this particular start is thus: we have plenty forrest, bronze working here means 600 chopped shields w/in my capital's fat-X (I gonna move to that blue circle & can count 10 tiles of forrest) that I can see, fish & crabs is nice too (only need fishing). So 3 food sources are gonna make a killer capital, but since program seems to suggest that the tile next is an even better location, I am gonna try my luck.

Ok, 4 foods & gold, this is a strong start (no wonder I am posting it )

We will go w/Animal Husbandry/Mining/Fishing/Bronze Working. This combination should take about 120 turns to research. Capital will be allowed to reach size 6 (4 enjoying life, 1 palace servant, & 1 goldielocks) before pumping any settlers.

Hmm... alright change in research. Those villagers felt very generous (this is still turn 2, there was a goody hut u cant see on the screenshot).

Ah... turn 3 & I meet my victim. So plan for warrior immidietly becomes to search & capture slaves.

Turn 5 & I see my slave, he is right there working w/out no suspicion I got evel plans on him :hehehe:. But I cant get to him just yet, bcz that rice paddy is blocked by cultural borders & coast. So I will move towards Ivory & circle around AI capital to see if there is another tile that worker will be working next.

Bingo, he is bound to work 1 of these 3 tile in the next few turns, so I will wait on that forrest. If Seol expands culture I run the risk of me warrior getting teleported far & away from his plans though.

Sucker . As we saw on turn 5 AI capital had 2 archers. This is turn 14 & I am gambling that he hasnt built another archer in the meantime. Since that tile is right next to capital, he will counterattack my warrior, if he has 3 archers. Otherwise he will sit & watch as I capture his worker. If I decide to play it safe & wait untill the worker starts roading the tile I am sitting on, the culture will expand by then & I wont be able to sit on that comfy tile. This runs even the greater risk that I will loose the worker from site for a few turns (if I had a scount he could aid in spotting, but a single warrior complicates things) & by the time I find him, AI might have an archer posted on top of him. So of all the risks the lesser one is capture righ this very turn.

Now that we are @ war & me warrior has capture me a worker, it is time to get him trained. The yellow beast offers me an opportunity but a 25% defense boost of a hill is too great of a risk (I am not gonna have another warrior for a while, since I am building a worker @ me capital) against 2 attack of a lion, I will hide in the bushes (50% boost equals 3 vs 2, whereas 25% boost means 2.5 vs 2) & meet him there. I might even move to that forrested hill to get a 75% boost (3.5 vs 2).

Yep, going for Woodsman I promotion after having killed the lion & a bear. Now I have to find a quick & easy way to get 3 more xp for Woodsman II. Where shall I go? One thing is for sure I will stick to the bush & head to where there is lots of it. I will just move around this area, not to get too far away from me enemy. He must be bulding me another slave as we speak.

Meanwhile, @ home I have finished me worker & started on Warrior. Animal Husbandry will be done soon & me population will boom. So I am gonna need some police force.

Turn 41... I can see Horses Fishing is next in line.

Kill the Korean scout that was hanging around my capital & get 6/5 xp Barb archers are here too!

While I was busy getting Woodsman II, me enemy has been busy building me slaves. I see 2 of 'em. He ain't getting past 2 cities

I see a possible nice cite for a second city (blessed are the creative who pump culture w/out effort), Although there is possible a better side down south, near that Oasis. What shall I do? Grab Silver & Marble for some happiness & future posibilities or some cornfields for insane growth on my second city too (horse is of no consiquence here bcz me capital will get that into my borders even before I get a settler)? Possibilities, probabilities, ah... may be I should just go to sleep. Dreams are wise.

Ok a new day offers a new sunrise & whole bunch of new possibilities as to what to do. Since this is a Sunday, I choose to play some civ

My homeland is doing fine. It is turn 60 & I have 4 workers (1 built, 3 captured) toiling away erecting Pastures, Mines, & Roads. My northern warrior is exploring the northlands & fighting off barbs (if I dont keep that area lit, this is about time that Barb cities start spawning, & I want that silver w/out having to fight for it. Keeping an area lit was KvR's brilliant idea that I shamelessly borrowed. Yep borrowing other ppl's ideas is 1 great advantage I have over AI). Meantime in the Korean lands my Woodsman II warrior is being a menace. I will be pillaging that trade rout this very turn. It aint as nice as pillaging farmlands & camps, but still helps to retard the AI. I would pillage the farmlands & camp, but Wong Kong has got a hoard of archers by now & I cant really get off of the woods (my warrior will be dead if I do). So I'll let him have that camp & farmland for now. It just means he will build me workers so much the faster. If he is building a settler in Seol, then I will have an opportunity to pillage that farmland after he moves out a few archers w/his settler. Same goes for Pyongyang.

Well, this is the last civ I gotta meet. So the board consists of Charlemagne (he tends to build huge empires & therefore stays retarded on tech front untill he can get past Currency), Genghis Khan (same as Charlemagn, but he is a freaking warmonger on top of it too. So he'll be a pushover once I get to Pikes & Maces (secret here is to get there w/decent empire)), Alexander (another warmonger. Hopefully him & Genghis are neighbors & very far from me, so they can club away @ each other & leave me alone. He is philosophical too, which means he'll be popping Great Ppl like popcorn & jumping ahead in the tech race like freaking frog), Wong Kong (he is toast, Isabella will have him for breakfast. If she doesnt, I'll have him for lunch ), Isabella (she is a bhudist & so far the only religiously enlightened one. Bhudism is going to be the dominant Religion in this game, I tell ya), Frederick (dont be fooled by his score, that just means that he is speading through techs like a ferrarri & he is philosophical... bad, bad omen).

It is set in stone now, that plains tile directly south of that mountain is my 2nd city site. Sheep/horses/marble/silver all w/in 1 city (w/automatic culture) is just too good to pass up on. And yes it will be a military unit factory. I might beeline for Oracle too. W/gold & silver both my initial cities will be far too profitable, & I will tech like say may be like a BMW (still not like a ferrarri, but BMWs are sexy too). I just might change me plans & do a settler after that work boat (I'll still be at pop 3 then as opposed to my initial plan of waiting for pop 6), bcz this is one good site for a second city.

Settler in 23 turns, I'll take that. If I already had Bronze Working, I might have built another work boat & warrior, but this settler will be done well ahead of that (it takes me 21 turns to research if I work gold, 6 turns to grow if I fish & no settler. So the math pretty much says: build a settler). I run the risk of getting a barb coming by to pillage, but I have 4 improved tiles to 3 pop. So if a tile gets pillaged, I have some insurance. Plus my culture will expand in 5 turns further boosting my defenses in the capital (I have a warrior w/combat I sitting on that roaded forrested grassland tile to the south east of cow pasture, he can come & fortify in the capital if need be), & pushing barbarian spawn even further away from improved tiles. So far I have 4 workers (1 built, 3 captured), 3 warriors (1 original, 2 built), 3 pop, & 4 improved tiles. I am on my 3rd tech (Husby/Fishy/Bronze), & will be beelining to Priesthood through way of Polytheism (this will let me chop for Artemis in my capital) & possibly get Judaism as my religion. If I get the Oracle, I will use it to get Mathematics (important for chop chop Artemis, which itself is important for its priest. Combine that w/2 great profit points (GPP) from Oracle, plus 2 great merchant points (GMP) & I am set on the financial front for the forseeable future.

Well, it is turn 94 & a group of adventurous settlers has formed to colonize the new lands. Me enemy also managed to pop a settler in the meantime (I guess he will found a 3rd city ). I captured 2 more workers (for a total of 6). My whole capital is roaded up & ready for chop-chop. I guess I will have to sue for peace w/Wang Kong. Otherwise I'll get too many workers (the ones I already have are running out of things to do).

R.I.P me woodsman II, a vicious band of korean archers attacked him, & he just gave up . So no more fun for some time. I found me second city & set it to chariots. I may chop a barraks once bronzing is done, but not nesesary. I need numbers @ the moment & I may instead use those forrests for a settler (since I am going to keep the ones about capital for Artemis & Oracle). Barracks can wait, untrained chariots will do just as good a job defending. It is just that they wont have any teeth to launcha serious offensive. Capital is set to build a workboat & will either pump chariots or do another settler before switching to wondering.

Ah... the barbarian hords are coming in for easy plundering, so I moved me northern warrior closer to capital just in case both of those archers deside to assault the capital. If they fiddle around to pillage me numerous roads I'll be saved, but right no its getting tight. I am going to feel the pain of not having Archery. Also, look, Wong Kong just built me a city. That was the exact spot I was planning on Next turn I will discover Bronzing & set out for Mystisism. Hmm... may be I should chop the Stonehege too. Getting wonder greedy now.

Alright, chariots are on-line. They are Archer killers & their mobility makes for great defense. So now I am pretty much safe, just need to queue up 5 or 6 of these neat little things. No bronze nearby

Alright... wut promotion to choose? Combat I ofcourse, Flanking I is nice but not as important as Combat I. W/4.4 vs 3 of archers, my chariots will be unstopable. Forget that odd chance of withdrawal, which only lets cowards survive (plus they die more than they can withdraw anyways)

Hmm... Wong Kong still wont accept a ceasefire. I guess I will pump chariots, untill he feels sorry he ever rejected me. I built a barracks in Uruk, so now it is the turn of Erudu to build it barracks. Taking turns & constantly pumping units, that is my formula for survival. I need to start taking cities since I have slid down all the way to 50% rate. My workers are prechoping for the wonders. I dont need to build settlers, I will just capture Korean cities. I am gonna need pottery sometime soon too otherwise I will go bankrupt. Razing a few barb cities should help financially. Thats what I am gonna do before I set out on Wong Kong.

An opportunity arrizes to plunder Wonsan. AI moved the archers stationed there towards the barb city. So I am right there in his back w/me chariots. Unfortunately I wont be able to keep the city, it will autoraze, but he will build me another one

On Gilgamesh, the saga continues...

So those archers were not heading towards Barb city. It was a diversionary manuver, & they showed up at the doorsteps of me Cap. Sneaky, sneaky. But I have chariots, so I pullback before even attacking Wonsan. 7 chariots vs 5 archers, he wont get far w/that offensive. Also I might not attack Wonsan altogether untill I get swords (25% hillz, 70% archer w/city garrison I, 25% fortify, 20% culture, that's 7.2 vs 4 of me chariots. This is not even counting that odd chance of extra first strike, protective be damned ). I highly suspect that the plains tile to the east of my capital contains iron. At least I hope so bcz no forrest has grown there for ages, although that is the tile I started on. No great chances but hopeful thinking is pretty much all I got. Instead I will swing around & make assault on his other 2 cities located. If offensive is successfull, his capital will jump to Wonsan, & I will capture it w/out razing later on. I will raze his other 2 cities. Keeping my maintenance costs at minimum is key to fast research, & fast research is key to getting those 2 wonders that I so much want. Plundered gold will let me crank up research to 100% (me researchers are promissing Priesthood/Masonry/Writing in 31 turns, if I can get them the money), & pay for chariot unit costs. So chariots all the way, baby. It is my luck that he's got no Bronze either. Hey to think of it I might not even need swords for him, horse archers will do fine too. And I know I can build horse archers, so forget gambling turns for Iron

Well, Korean offensive is toast. I only lost 1 chariot to his 5 archers in the prossess. Now I am building my "Highway of War" w/all the 6 workers that I got. Should have done this few turns ago, when they were idle, but I guess it better late than never in this situation. If u notice I am emphasizing sheilds in Uruk instead of working those fishy tiles. Extra 4 gold would help considerably in research, but plundered gold helps me even more in this situation. Su pumping chariots as fast as I can. I might go plunder those barbs right outside of me, before I set out for Korean heartland. Plundering barb or Korean will yeild gold, except casualties suffered on Korean front will transfer into War Waeriness, whereas Barb front will not give me that.

Not as much gold as I was counting on, but it only cost me 2 chariots & yielded 2 promotions & a worker. Me capital doing 1 chariot every 4 turns, so I will be back in me #'s by the time I get to Koreans, & will have stronger chariots (those archers on the hill are 2 barbs that will serve as target practince in the nearest future ). I switched me research to masonry in order to get that quary up & running before starting Oracle (9 truns for masy @ full speed & I am running 15 gpt deficit)

Assault on Seol begins. He's got 3 archers (city garrison I & Drill I) against my 7 chariots (6 combat I)

And the result is... 4 chariots go to meet their ancesstors & I capture the city & a worker. Somebody freaking built the Oracle this turn . So I'll be keeping Seol (as opposed to my original plan of razing everything & go for Pottery right after Masonry. Then I will still finish Priesthood for Zigurats & then may be try for Pyramids in Seol (I got plenty forrest to burn). I will build a settler in Uruk to get that Stone resourse where there was a barb city, and finally its time for Slavery (in order to rush the settler).

Well... after I capture his capital he will accept a peace treaty. I would normally go for seazefire (for w/out the 10 turn burden), but I wont get around to him before those 10 truns are over anyways. I'll be busy erecting the Artemis, getting a settler to capture the Bronze resource next to Seol (Alex built a city on my stone ), & replenishing my chariot forces. Running a 20 gpt deficit for pottery's sake.

There we go, thats my Bronze & Stone city (since Alex sneaked in his city on my privious plans). As u can see I am heading to plunder the other barb city for Gold (the mother of all evels)

I get my Wonder & its time to sleep & dream sweet dreams

So we woke up. Saw numerous dreams. They were all sweet but non were luid, & since no life changing revelations were made, we continue wut we were doing yesterday. I currently have 7 chariots, 10 workers, & 4 warriors. On tech front I am on Writing (researched Husby, Bronzing, Mysti, Polly, Masy, Priests, & Potty by turn 190). Since I get Zigurats & can build cottages, I can finally start expanding the number of me cities. Writing will be when I will start cranking on research, so it is important to get it early on.

I am running a merciless deficit (0% science slider & still 4gpt deficit), so it is time to war on Korea again! I lost 9-10 chariots during the previous war, but captured his capital w/all the of its forrests intact. Now he is starting to chop, so it is time for him to bow out of this game.

El Cid was born. They all thought he was crazy, when little. He loved torchering pesky little animals, but then he grew up, & started torchering young men into fine soldiers. And warriors from Erudu were known as fine warriors ever since. Assault on Wonsan was a Pyrhic victory. Luckily he only had 2 archers & I lost 3 chariots taking them out. Not as bad as it could have been, but now I dont have any teeth left untill I build some Vultures. On the domestic front Charlamagn offered Open Borders, so we accept. It is time to get spread a religion Historians say I am the 3rd largest... Ok. Charlamagn & Genghis got 8 cities each to my 4, & Isabella got 7. I cant see wuts going on w/Alex & Frederick for now, but for some reason Frederick is way behind.

On Alexander

Well the last try was a miserable failure. This time we will stick to the plan of not declaring war on anybody early on. So here it begins...

Let step into the shoes of one of the greatest leaders of all time. Well... at least the Firaxian incarnation of him - let's see how Alexander does it. He starts w/Fishing & Hunting & a scout. He is agressive & philosophical. I love philosophical leaders for some unknown reason more than any other type. Agressive is nice too. W/Combat I on all mellee units, u get some diversity as to what promotions to choose for ur 3 xp that are gotten through the barracks (u build barracks cheaper too, to just sweeten the deal even further)

Corn & Ivory, not bad for a start. I will settle right on top of the Ivory to get the 2 sheilds in home tile & the hapiness bonus. Those flood plains will be killer cottage sites. So 1st things 1st we will set out to discover Agriculture & then Wheel & Potery. 1st unit will be a worker, followed by a settler/warrior.

This was a better site than settling on top of Ivory, so I took this site instead.

Well, well... look @ that, we got gold in abundance.
