Annals of Queen Tonabella; 1625AD

Spoiler Text Below - Highlight to See Hidden Text
"Good news, my Queen!"

"Then thou shalt keep thy nuts, herald. Pray what is this news?"

"The vile Aztecs, having kicked ye crappe out of Louis and made threatening demands of your Majesty have recently declared war on the slime-filled Hammurabi. I dare'st say this maybe has something to do with your Majesty's emergency musketmen-building scheme that dissuaded him from becoming nasty. Montezuma and his vassal Louis attacked the Native Americans instead, tee hee. Looks like we're saved for the time being. He had a stack of cataphracts as tall as, erm, well, a really very tall thing, my Queen. Our spy near shat hissel', he did."

"Hmmm, we are not out of ye woods yet methinks. The Aztecs do leadeth the scoreboard above us. I trust them not. What news from the New World?"

"Our gallant pilgrims do spread as fast as their little feet can trot, Ladyship, though it costs our treasury sore. If only they could send back gold and silver like they did in the real world. Barbarians there are, but no sign yet of our true enemies. Seems your imperial insight was inspired and we hath gained a mastery of the seas. In but a few years our privateers shall be sinking any enemy galleons they spy and disappearing like ghosts. Whahoo-eth! Um, there is, however, one small bit of bad news, for Montezuma shalt soon discover the secrets of gunpowder, and if he succeeds against Hammurabi...." *gulps*

"I careth not for this news herald!"

"Ahh, gotta run, your Majesty. Important, erm, heralding to do elsewhere."

I *almost* had a similar thing happen in mine.

Year 1660AD, I'm coasting toward what I hope will be a win, and then this happens:

Pretty impressive stack of units he brought.  I was kind of afraid for a moment that he might take that city.  As you can see, I had a decent defense there and had walls and a citadel, which means I only lost a few units, though pretty much all of the remaining were pretty badly hurt.  Walls and a citadel were enough to crush most of those units he brought.

Still, it scared me.

Lol

Although I was waiting Montezuma's invasion, he managed to take one of my cities.
Disqualifying me !

I had a decent game though.

I rush the indians and got them like in 100 AD.
Filled the distance with cities and had a nice tech lead.

I just discovered astronomy when Montezuma declared on me.

I wouldn't had a positive cash flow at 60% anyway I think.
I played that game to practice my SE. I knew from the beginning it wasn't the best option for that game

Anyway, that was fun.

PS : I hate unrestricted leaders !
Espacially when you have Justinian as a leader of a random orange civ AND the byzantine empire led by some other random warmonger.

That game kicked my butt; even AFTER I restarted a second time. And Nuke, a "decent defense" that is an enormous stack in that city!

I too dislike unrestricted leaders. I suppose if they were handpicked in some way, but I just found it very confusing. Good job to those who finish and do well on this one!

I usually grumble about the unrestricted leader option. I think Mongoose must like that one. I hadn't grumbled about it this month, but since you brought it up.... *grumble grumble*

You know what, I'm actually glad it's all over.

Montezuma vassalised the American Indians within a couple of turns much to my extreme annoyance and then quickly mobilised three countries against me. Having put so much effort into colonising the New World I held on in the Old for nearly 100 years but, interesting though this was, the rules against losing even one city completely bugger your options. Eventually, after many many units and Great Generals died on both sides, Lahore fell, and that was that. The fact that I had a completely viable and well established colony of eight cities counts for nothing. Hint: make sure you are very strong at home before colonising.

So, mongoose, let me get this straight. If I lose a New World city, even temporarily, it's game over? I won't be able to win even if I reconquer it?

Correct, same goes for old world cities.

Almost forgot I have this one to complete...

Tones, you've inspired me to adopt Montezuma's state religion.
