It's interesting how M rated games are the lowest of any category yet they are the target of all the politicians and lawyers.  The last time they topped the list was 2000.  Talk about pandering.

The Federal Trade Commission today released the results of its latest nationwide undercover shop of movie theaters and movie, music, and video game retailers. The FTC conducted a survey with 13-to-16-year-old undercover shoppers to collect data about the extent to which retailers prevent unaccompanied children from buying tickets to R-rated movies, R-rated DVDs, Unrated DVDs of movies that were R-rated in theaters, M-rated video games, and music CDs labeled with a Parental Advisory Label – “PAL” – for explicit content.

I was trying to find the study that proved that violent video games don't cause the person playing them to become more aggressive, but I can't find it now. I think it was a Harvard study. Anyway, maybe these politicians should do their homework before they jump on the bandwagon.

I don't doubt their missing the point on gaming.  What, with all the drinking their doing in the local pubs to pull in the votes of the average Joe and Josephine.  I thought they took alcohol adds of TV to prevent kids from getting the wrong idea?  But I guess it's okay to down shots and beer on tv if your a Presidential Candidate.  I'm not a big McCain fan, but he is the only one I haven't seen do this on air.  Hillary and Obama are bending elbows like champs on air.  And their worried about the effects of gaming?  Seems too me, they should worry more about the effects of the message they are sending.  Their hypocrisy knows no bounds.  PANDERING INDEED!

So, (throws bomb) what's the big deal with the government regulating what kids will be allowed to buy anyway?

*shrugs**catches bomb*  Because that is the job of responsible parents and gaurdians.  Not the Government.  What are we teaching our kids by handing parental rights to the Government without question?  Certainly not what the Founding Father's intended.   Shall we next let them decide for us what our kids wear?  (Tho at times I do see some creepy sense in that. ) *tosses bomb to the next*

-I'm pretty sure the industry is regulating itself, unless something's happened in the last few weeks that I hadn't noticed. It is still subject to government inspection, just like everything else though.

No your right.  It is still self regulated, by whip.  Maybe a good thing.  But Parents do need to wake up and accept responsibility for their kids.  Or, someone, somewhere will, and not always with the kid's best interest in mind.  (politics, power and money).  This stretches far beyond just gaming.  When we, (the American Public), forget, ignore, and basically neglect our freedoms, we will loose them.  An inconvenient truth.
