Hi

I hav been playing CIV now for longer than I care to remember, all the versions, and many of the additions.

I have CIV 4 and now Beyond the Sword and they are both brilliant. I have the problem that when I finish a game, my score does not come up on the Hall of Fame, it remains empty. I check my replay files, and they are all of 0 kb. I cannot upload the file, as it is empty.

Does anyone else have that problem?

I can still enjoy the game, but it is more fun when you can compare scores.

I have Windows XP.

Thanks in advance
Anne the Dane

Hello Anne and welcome.

You've probably thought of this already, but in the "Game Configuration" file the game maybe set to not auto save.  Tho I would think that it would still register an ending score without saving it.  If it does you can save the screen shots.  If it doesn't then I am perplexed.  Inorder to keep the game running smoothly on my XP system, (not taking up bytes), I have changed the game settings to no auto saves.  It does not save scores from game to game.  But I still get an ending score window.  I figure on just keeping a written record of great scores, tho I'm still waiting to do better than a "Dan Quayle" rating.

Getting to the Config file:

START>MY DOCUEMENTS>MY GAMES>SID MEIER"S CIVILIZATION 4>CIVILIZATION 4 CONFIGURATION SETTINGS.

Welcome to 1BC

No idea what could be causing that; prolly somebody like Aintmyprob will come along soon with some ideas.

My only guess would be that you're using a non-English speaking version of the game and somehow files got mixed up in installing?

Hi Anne,

Do you have non-English characters for your game profile name? Like where my game ID is "Nuclearcow" is yours something with non-standard English letters? I'm ignorant on Danish letters and if there are any accents over letters or anything like that compared to English lettering, but this could cause it.

This would also happen if your Windows ID has that, because your Civ IV/Beyond the Sword folder would be under a folder name with those same characters. Example, C:\Documents and Settings\Nuclearcow\My Documents\My Games\Beyond The Sword\(whatever).

If so, you're stuck unless you rename that ID. If its your Windows login ID, you'd have to have another login ID with standard English characters. Could be annoying, huh?

After saying that, if that isn't it, I'm at a loss. Hope thats it. If it helps, can you let us know?

Welcome to 1BC!

Hi all

Thanks for all the good advice. I have checked it all: The game is set to autosave, I only run in English, and there should not be any Danish characters in my computer's name, the name of my harddrive or my own username. Cause you are right; in Denmark we have three non-typical characters æ, ø and å (don't try to pronounce them).

I have been told how to run the log, and I get the following error: "Traceback (most recent call last):
File "CvScreensInterface", line 154 in showReplay
Runtime error: Unidentifiable C++ exception

I investigated, and no file with the name CvScreensInterface is anywhere on my computer.

I did not do a custom install, the only thing I changed when installing was to uncheck the box saying that the game should be an exception to the Windows Firewall. This is unnecessary for me, I never play multiplayer.

I also followed the advice in a thread in civfanatics.com and installed Windows Installer 3.1 and Windows Visual C++ Express.

Thanks again. This is really a puzzle.

I am at a loss, Anne. Perhaps this is one for game's tech support.

If you do find an answer, please post it here though, so it might help future users.

Sorry I wasn't more of a help. Good luck.
