Since this is a random election thread, I'll randomize the topic a little bit, hehe. Running mate for Obama.

What about Collin Powell? He seemed rather moderate (almost liberal?) for an Army General and ex-staffer for Bush. This would do a couple things for Obama. 1, adding an ex-military guy as vice president would soften a lot of the criticism from the 'right' about his anti-Iraq war stuff. You can call him soft, wussy, or whatever, but... ahh... there's Colin Powell as the VP, a retired 4 star general that is heavily respected for his previous service and methods in Iraq War I. The 2nd thing thing this would do is to soften the criticism of Obama being too far to the left, and also soften those that praise McCain for being a moderate who reaches across the aisle, etc. Maybe his biggest praise by all but the far-right, who hate that. Well, heck... Obama has Powell, so he obviously reaches across the aisle too, etc. Even though we all know the Vice-President doesn't set policy, etc, but people give lots of weight to vice president during election times. If Bush senior didn't have Dan Quayle, maybe he would have won a 2nd reelection.

The negative of a Colin Powell is that it would be a black man and those who are already shakey about a black president would now be doubley-shakey. Obama might be considered to be pandering to the black community, etc.

McCain's running mate. I don't think the vice-president will make or break McCain like Obama's might. I'd like to see Romney personally. He was pretty close to McCain before he bowed out of the race. He was much more popular than Huckabee, though Huckabee stuck around for a while drawing things out. Now Huckabee might help McCain in the south more than a Romney would, but truthfully, can you see Southern Republicans voting for Obama anyways? I just don't think its as critical for McCain, but it might help his electability to have a rather conservative VP. Maybe.

Hillary as VP for Obama? Surely you're dreaming. These 2 together are divisive and they just don't seem to like each other. Besides, Obama might fear what the Clintons are capable of if she's the VP...

Hillary as a running mate for McCain! GAH! That is a horror movie waiting to happen!

Ron Paul? I like him, but I think the rest of the Republican party likes to ignore him in general. Will Ron Paul help you carry a state that you might not have? I doubt it. Romney or Huckabee? Sure. Err... maybe.

I think we all know that Barack Obama is going to be our next president.

I am going to take this back. Because remember last summer, it was almost inevitable that we'd either be voting for Democrat Hillary Clinton or Republican Rudy G (not to mention a half dozen other candidates from 'lesser' parties). Ha Ha HA! Anything can happen and it's going to be a long strange trip between now and November!

Also, watch out for early leads.  The bigger they are, the harder you fall.

Don't forget Nukestradamus's prediction of Al Gore somehow making a surprise entrance into this election. (Obama's running mate?) It still could happen! A couple quacks.. errr... I mean insightful journalists in the media copied my idea a few months after my 2008 predictions too! hehe. But, time is running out on that prediction.

Have you guys noticed how many posts 1BC has had the last several days compared to before? Impressive...

A politician if there ever was one....

Oklahoma Democrat won't endorse Obama

"We're much more conservative," Boren said of his rural district which stretches across the eastern part of the state and borders Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Texas.

"I've got to reflect my district. No one means more to me than the people who elected me. I have to listen to them," Boren added. His congressional office confirmed the accuracy of the quotes to CNN.

But the Oklahoma Democrat said he would vote for Obama at the party's convention in August because of the serious issues the country faces.

"I think this is an important time for our country," he said. "We're facing a terrible economic downturn. We have high gasoline prices. We have problems in our foreign policy. That's why I think it's important."

Oooooooooook. This is what's wrong with America!!!!!! Attitudes like this!!!!! He won't endorse Obama, yet he is voting for him at the convention, a mixed message if there ever was one.

Political CYA!  At the expense of character.  Only true politicians get away with this.  He'd be cannon fodder here in P&R!
