Obama v. Bush

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Since Barack Obama incessantly makes the case that a John McCain administration would equate to another Bush term, it's worth looking at just how much Sen. Obama himself is in agreement with the unpopular president.

Does that mean that he, too, would be a repeat of President Bush? If one were to apply his logic, maybe so.

Here are 20 reasons why:

Nice post LC. Reminds me of that whole Political Compass thing that shows how little real difference exists in the actual policies and procedures of "conservatives" and "democrats" in modern Western states.

Which leads me to this question: Why are we trapped in a political culture in which both parties succeed in duping the vast majority of the people into conceiving of the two parties as polar opposites, if not antithetical? Both parties, and any prominent figure in either party, are quickly reduced from the status of rational human being to caricature. Obviously, there are major points on which any two individuals, or the two parties may differ radically (e.g., whether or not they supported the Iraq War at the time of its initiation), but to constantly, incessantly, perennial portray themselves as "The Jedi" and the others as "The Sith" is just inane.

It is really quite sad, given the opportunities afforded with modern mass media, and the generally high levels of literacy and numeracy, that the current traditions and customs totally squash any manifestation of true debate, true discussion, and true statesmanship, i.e., eloquence, refined and well-conceived thinking, and inspiring leadership based on principle and duty.

A culture that reduces our nations political life to nothing more than one big crass media circus is more than deplorable. It is a damn shame, and a waste of potential.

Indeed. I will say that while many conservative christians voted for him, I wonder if that made the difference in the end. A lot felt that he was just not great at connecting with people and hey, you think McCain's "wealth" is an issue, Romney's would have been much more so, especially with the economy the way it is today at election time. Obama would have a much easier time linking Romney's policies with Bush's than he really can with McCain. Despite some of my frustration with McCain of late, I wonder if anybody else would have a chance. Maybe Giulianni but his early strategy was an utter failure and not sure he's got the right stuff to get elected. It's sad that in this day of modern media, the best candidate can't get elected. We've got to go with who the media pushes on the sheople...

Just because he's not the official Republican Party endorsed candidate, doesn't mean you can't still vote for him, Jerm.
