I was on the receiving end of one of those little twilight zone battles.  While attacking a city on a hill with a Panzer, with two city assault promotions, my tank was killed by a Spearman.  The tank was in prime condition.  I had to walk away from the computer for few minutes to stop cursing!  (Maybe I take the game too seriously? )  It was one of the few of my adversaries cities left and the balance of power seems to tip in the AI's favor when it gets down to that.

Looks like you had a serious assault being waged on you.

Ah... sneak attack by the Persians while I was already at war with the Incans, who had capitulated to the Zulu and their Malinese vassal to get them to attack me, despite my good relations with Shaka. I ended up taking the nuclear option out of this game. Still, I really have to wonder how that Persian destroyer captain managed to screw up that badly.

I've got to admit, though, that the best bizzarro battle that I've witnessed so far was when a roommate playing the Poles in Road to War inadvertently defeated a German panzer division with the Polish Cavalry. I'm sure that German High Command was, to say the least, at a loss.
