Not a derailment.  Infact very much part of the discussion.  I used to say plastic because I thought I was saving a tree, and I have a lot of uses for the plastic.  Eventually tho it is either thrown away or recycled if I remember to do so.  But considering the landfills which dot this country.  Give me the paper.  It goes away in a year or so, uses less oil to harvest and fashion, and trees can be replanted, and are.  Besides, paper bags stay upright in a car longer.

I read a study that said regardless of your choice they both have the same impact on the environment. Point being, bring your own damn bags. =P

Nah, I'll take the plastic

You won't get any support from me on that, I'm sorry.

Why not?

It wouldn't bother me one bit to live in a wigwam somewhere growing my own veggies.

When they invent time machines, I'm sure you'll be able to do that.

Why not? I thought I made that clear with my second sentence. =P But really, I think it's dangerous. I heard somewhere that it would take a few million years to recover from radioactive pollution if one of those things blew. Look at Chernobyl, horrific. Technological advancement has its obvious good points, but the drawbacks are extremely severe. There has got to be other ways. I am actually considering solar panels for our new house.

I don't see anything environmentally hazardous about off-shore drilling to be honest, heck, most reports say they even act as coral reefs for fish. There's also plenty of pro-environment countries such as Denmark and Norway already drilling off their own shores... I just don't see the big deal about it.

I'm also going to throw out there that I don't trust Reid either, we need to remember that the government is also pocketing their own money off of these high gas prices, not just the big evil oil companies. It's ironic how Brazil is working off sugar based ethanol (which they want to sell to us) and Congress in turn taxes it to the point that there's no profit to bring it to the United States. It's phishy!

As far as Nuclear, I'm all for it.

Hey, let's start by getting Nuclear Plants up and running!  It's something we could do right now.

Yes! And it seems like that is happening

Kentucky Bills Would End Moratorium on Nuclear Power Plant Construction

on the state level...

Lifting Moratorium on Nuclear Power

in Wisconsin...

and on Wiki:

Nuclear Energy Policy in the USA

I'm all for increased reliance on usage of renewables, solar, wind, etc. but nuclear works, yeah, there's the waste, but they take good care of it no?

Oil companies want a profitable supply.  Cheaper is better but not always possible.  If they can make money, they'll do it before someone else can.

Haha, I just heard Bill O'Reilly railing against the Big Oil Monopolies, how they are making record profits and they are not engaging in decent capitalism because they don't have to because they run a collective monopoly, a cartel, if you will, and they are sticking it to the consumers every which way they can, and that is not right. It was kind of surprising to hear him go off on them like that!

Bill Oreilly is the main one in the media pushing for sugar based Ethanol from Brazil and forcing cars to accommodate both ethanol and regular gas...
