My apology LC, yes you did have a valid point about a version of globalization. Another example would be the worldwide spread of fire ants or Africanized bees ... sorry I let one of my buttons get pushed ... sharing the joy includes sharing the misery I suppose, shrug.

In retrospect, I suppose every little tin pot dictator, with delusions are grander, has attempted their own brand of globalization from Ancient Egypt to Hitler.

As to the fact that he who has the gold makes the rules ... it has always been so.
Luckily for we the people if he who has the gold forgets how he got it, and goes on a tyrannical power trip, he soon loses it ... that too has always been so. What was that quote again NC? ... oh wait it's in LC's sig.

That is the reason I do not fear big business ... the ones that last are the ones that do not incur the wrath of their customers.

Don't like the price of gas? don't buy it!
Yeah I know, everyone has a everyone has their own excuse why they have to have it. One needn't even look outside the box to see that they are all just excuses. Gas has been around for what 200 years out of 6000 years of human history ... and yes you can just do it.

95 percent of my response was my own! Sorry, I could not let that Pink Floyd reference pass. I think linking would be inappropriate to things like news articles and such, but the link I provided was nothing to do with such things, it was for entertainment purposes only. Sometimes libraries delve into such things!

Yeah, I know my own libray has entertainment audio vis..................stuff.

I'm just trying to head off a rush to clickety-clicks if possible.  I really would like to see this happen.  Just personal thoughts and beliefs.  Just in this one little thread.

Yes, Owl, and I must say, it is a great experiment. The nature of the discussion seems to be quite more pleasing than other threads that just become, as you say, quote- and link- fests.

Tosk, no worries mate. I know the Catholic Church is a sore spot for a lot of people! Anyways, you are right, if you don't like the price of gas, don't buy it. Something Stalin said about one death being a tragedy, but one million a statistic....well, along those same lines, one person is an activist, but one million, a movement; and you are right, even in today's sorry state of affairs, we the people still do retain some power. It's just getting the rest of we the people to realize that. Of course, when you live in a county, as I do, where some 80 percent of "we the people" receive some form of government assistance (welfare, anyone? Foodstamps, maybe) it is hard to get more of we the people on board, unfortunately... But that doesn't mean you quit trying...

Sir Black, do you subscribe to Playboy or Maxim or any other gentlemen's magazins? I sure feel like flipping through one, while ya'all are discussing such grand matters.

Locus, let me tell you a personal story :puffs on bubble pipe:.  4+ years ago, I lived in L.A.  I commuted 35 miles to work and 35 miles home.  I used up a lot of gas.  I filled my gas tank up more than once a week.  I made a decent amount of money so it was worth the drive.  4 years ago, I decided to move to Utah and do the same job from home.  My commute consists of me putting on my slippers and heading into my [finished] basement to work (and come to 1BC way too often ).  Even with $4+ gas, it's not a burden.  Yes there are choices that people have to use gas.  I realize not everyone has the same situation as I do but there are options.

You do make a good point about the Sauds using oil funds to fund Wahabism and I have been coming round on the "Manhattan Project" type solution as well.  I am leary of some of the ways the government tries to "help" though.  Will the solution only make matters worse like with the Ethanol scam?

80% of the people use Welfare where you live?  Wow, that is a lot.

Duh! That Gandhi quote IS on LC's signature, huh? *looks at his cigar and wonders again what is in it* Sometimes I'm as sharp as a bowling ball. Sorry fellas.

*looks at Jerm's "bubble pipe" and realizes it is really some fancy bong* "Jerm!"

So. New topic then?

How about I propose 2? 1) if you could see humanity in general, gain or lose 1 trait, or 1 tendency that people have or don't have, what would it be? This can be something for the good of mankind, or just because something annoys you and nothing 'higher' in purpose.

2nd topic. Pet peeves. What are yours?

*takes the pipe away from Jerm and passes him a Sprite*

Hey, give me back my "bubble pipe".  I'll need it to answer Nuke's questions .
