Israel Prodding U.S. To Attack Iran
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/06/24/eveningnews/main4206201.shtml

Bush's approval rating won't go up before January. I wouldn't put it past the guy.

Even if he were stupid enough to try and soak us with even more stupidity, Congress would not let a war with Iran occur.  Unless Iran does something equally stupid like, attack Israel.  But then again, Bush is kind of a loose cannon isn't he?

Yep.  I was a happy farm boy then.  Didn't have care.  Except where my next carton of BB's was coming from.  But if Bush truly seeks impeachment before leaving office willfully, he'll buckle to Israeli pressure.

Given this:

Israel's message is simple: If you don't, we will. Israel held a dress rehearsal for a strike earlier this month, but military analysts say Israel can not do it alone.

It seems kinda irrelevant what the U.S. does. Israel will either get help, or force help.

When your choices are (a) help an ally or (b) be forced to help an ally, it seems logical to me to go with (a) in preference to (b).

Another peek at the larger strategic issues which make short-term solutions like "pulling out of Iraq" incredibly stupid ventures.

We need to either dis- our ally in the region (Israel) or get on with doing what they regard as essential to their survival = beotch slap Iran for flagrantly disregarding what the entire friggin' world (sans the Commies) have been telling them for years: stop, stop, STOP working towards nukes . . . "else we will be very, VERY angry with you and we will write you a letter telling you how angry we are with you . . .

lol Liked that last bit...anyway, if I were Iran I would build them regardless. But that's just me. I always do what people tell me not to.

That "beotch slap" comment has started my day out right! Thank you.

Either that, or they are bluffing in order to prod the US to do it, which I guess they'd have to do quite hard. The Cold War is over, Israel is becoming as much a political liability as an asset to the US.

Remember two years ago when Olmert "slipped" that Israel was ready to use a tactical nuke to take out an Iranian underground nuclear site? They're playing nervous, wanting the US to believe that unless it does something, Israel will make the crap hit the fan.

Oh, cry me a river. The entire world, including the commies, has been telling Israel things for many, many more years. Should Israel also be slapped for not complying with world opinion?

Well, I would build them too, and upon having a decent arsenal plus long-range delivery capability, let the whole world know about it. I would not put up with a world order where others have nukes and we have them not, especially when the major nuclear powers have repeatedly refused to even nominally adopt No First Use policies. Especially when offensive nuke use seems to be a socially acceptable idea, even on this very forum.
