Hi everyone

I just bought CIV3 yesterday after waiting so long. I installed it a bit earlier, and that was a success, however when I load my game my screen goes blank and I get a message saying "SIGNAL OUT OF REACH" or something along those lines. It scrolls around the screen constantly, and I can't get rid of it!

My monitor is the right size for it (1024x768), but it still won't work. I've played another one of Sid Meiers games (Simgolf lol ) and that works perfectly.

It really has put me in a bad mood, I don't want to take it back. Could anyone help?

Thanks in advance.

hmmm,  in the main install folder,  there is an .ini file, can't remember what it's named, but... if you add keepres=1 into in it should work...  will search for correct answer... and edit

addit: ok,  dug up an old post...  only error would be conquests.ini....   just add to the bottom of the file with a text editor like notepad, don't use a word processor as it will add "bad" codes to each line.

You can set the resolution - ingame.

It's the ini file that Felix mentioned. For vanilla, it is civ3.ini. For PTW, it is civ3.ini or civ3ptw.ini in the PTW folder. For conquests, it's in the Conquests folder and, IIRC, is civ3conquests.ini

In that file, you can set the following:
KeepRes = 1 (to use the same resolution as your desktop);
Videomode = 1020 (to set resolution to the 1020 x 780? mode) Others include 640 (default), 1280 and others. For more info, you might want to check the readme file in the appropriate civ folder.
Also, for older monitors that only support 60Hz freq, you can use: Refresh = 60

Thank you for the help.

I'm just attempting it now, erm, I'm not one with alot of knowledge of computers though... I've opened the files of the games but I'm not sure what one I want, because none of them seem to be .ini lol.

I've installed Play The World (I got the double pack) and that is working fine, it's just Civ3 that seems to not work.

Is it worth worrying about Civ3 if I can play PTW? I don't wanna miss out on anything that is on Civ3 but not PTW

everything in the original game is in PTW, and even more...   additional content was also added with the Conquests expansion pack.  Make sure your patched up to v1.22 (IIRC for PTW,  Shows on the main menu of the game...)  as there was a lot of fixes.
