And the lay of the land has us with:

Exploration by warrior reveals:

We shall settle on location.

With Plentiful Deer around, we must take advantage. Thus we shall hone our hunting skills immediately. With a plethora of fish in the waters, we immediately put our town labourers to work on constructing fishing boats so that we may eat.

1st Utopian Dynasty
1st Coerulean Dynasty

Goals:

1) Found Utopia and Establish Utopian Civilisation.
2) Explore.
3) Train our warriors to become master hunters.

Turn 1) 3985 BC- Zzzzzzzzzzzz

Turn 2) 3970 BC- Exploring Warrior approaches friendly tribal village, SW of Utopia. They grant us 46 gp tribute for protection. They are very wise.

Turn 3) 3955 BC- Zzzzzzzzz

Turn 4) 3940 BC- ZzzzzzzzZ

Turn 5) 3925 BC- ZZZZZzzzzz

Turn 6) 3910 BC- Exploring.

Turn 10) 3850 BC- We have encountered a tribe calling themselves the French. They appear to be quite militaristic. Their leader is named De Gaulle. I don't know if we can trust 'em...For now we establish friendly, but cautious relations with these French.

Turn 11) 3835 BC- Exploring.

Turn 12) 3820 BC- Exploring Warrior encounters friendly tribal village NE of Utopia. They provide us with more maps. They are definitely a seafaring tribe.

Turn 17) 3745 BC- Exploring

Turn 18) 3730 BC- Exploring

Turn 19) 3715 BC- Behold!!!! Our fearless warriors have mastered the fine art of Hunting. They next set their sights on the skill of Bronze Working, that we may make use of the plentiful woods surrounding Utopia.

Turn 20) 3700 BC- Exploring.

The world as we know it in 3700 BC:

Goals:

1) Found Utopia and Establish Utopian Civilisation.
2) Explore.
3) Train our warriors to become master hunters.

====================================

1) Check.
2) Check. Those tribal maps did us some good.
3) Check.

They were modest goals. I'm not used to playing on this speed, and really this difficulty level, so things seemed a little slow moving for me. I decided to go after a workboat first to get our city growing a little faster, and you'll get that midway through your session. Being a financial Civ at this difficulty has it's advantages in my experience.

As far as long range planning, we seem to lack an abundance of resources near by, but so far don't have competitors closing in on us from all sides, but if we can get our second city a bit further up north, by the sheep or pigs, or maybe even further as the terrain is revealed, that would be to our advantage to define our territory and block the French from settling further south. Again though, with the pace of the game, don't know if this will come on your first dynasty or not.

Cheers.

We are now pursing Bronze Working, which is a long ways off in the future and have 46 gold coins in our royal coffers.

The sav. has been emailed. If anyone ever wants a copy, just let me know and I will gladly send.

Based on what I see from the images I would aggresively expand to the north. The starting location is not that bad but the lands to the south seems useless. Good luck, guys!

Capital aint bad. 4 plains hills & 3 food, which u as ingland should have hooked up the fish as the 1st order of the day. That could be your unit pump, if you avoid the temptation of plopping every improvement in your capital. Those floodplains will yield all the gold (and advancement that comes with it) that you want, but will have poor production. So dont slack on military unit build out of capital, lest De Gaul might just decide to do it for you.

Wow. We haven't gotten this much interest in one of our Dynasty games in a while, Ness.

Right you are.

From my first report:

"With a plethora of fish in the waters, we immediately put our town labourers to work on constructing fishing boats so that we may eat.

Things are just slower on the marathon level so the boats have not been completed yet.

That could be your unit pump, if you avoid the temptation of plopping every improvement in your capital.

Indeed, but what do you mean "plopping every improvement"?

Based on what I see from the images I would aggresively expand to the north. The starting location is not that bad but the lands to the south seems useless. Good luck, guys!

Thanks Bolan. I think that will be our strategy. To go as far north as reasonably possible first, then fill in the gaps later. It will definitely help to know how far north France is first. That they discovered us on the 10th turn, with a warrior no less, means they cannot be all that far off.

Given your starting position and the level, I think you're stuffed

Thanks Tones. It's why we play the game. If you think this one is bad, you should have seen the initial one I was going to post. It just wasn't worth it. But even if we do lose, it wouldn't be the first time. That's why we crank it up a notch, for the challenge of it all. Would you like to play along? I can send you the 4000bc save?

That temptation is a common mistake of mine, where I tend to build all improvements & wonders in the capital, even when my other towns sorely lack production capability to pump enough units to keep up in power. This start (with lots of flat land) is such a case. If you do have horses nearby, a chariot rush against France would probably do wonders.

Interesting thought, but I'm not really into parallel play - random events can make the whole comparison meaningless. I wish you guys the best of luck and hope you keep posting entertaining updates regarding your progress. It should be great fun to watch when the AI finally dumps on you bigtime. It will be many years in the future, of course.

Love and best wishes,

tones

adit: oh yeah...

yup. Probably your only chance, actually.

Goals for this session:

1) Continue exploring and find the homeland of the French.
2) Build a military of warriors.
3) Build a public workforce to improve our lands.

The turns:

1. 3685: Our Warriors persue a NE direction, spotting lions in the distance

2. 3670: Deciding not to risk the lives of the bretherin, our warriors continue NE, avoiding the lions range.

3. 3655: Our warriors have mounted a forsted hill and spotted the French city of Paris. Though their city's population matches ours, they have two archery units and a worker, already!

Picture of the distance between Utopia and Paris

4. 3640: Our warriors start exploring NW of Paris and notice that the french have access to the valuable resource of Stone near by. This will be a boon for them if they decide to build many of the ancient wonders.

5. 3625: zzz

6. 3610: Our Warrriors have spotted another french scout.  This talleys their achievments to 2 scouts, 2 archers, and 1 worker to the best of our intelligence.

7. 3595: Our warriors of also encountered feilds upon fields of sugar cane near the source of stone.  The French have surley been granted plentiful resources.

8. 3580: zzz

9. 3565: Our warriors of spotted a group of Panthers.

10. 3550:  The Panters have attacked us!!!, We suffer minor casualties and our band of warriors decided to camp out for 2 turns to return to full strength. However this experience has gained our warriors valuble experince.

In Utopia, the first fleet of fishing boats has been completed. This boon shall long be remembered.  Work has now begun on another band of warriors.

11. 3535: The fishing boats have reached our massive fish stocks and our first harvest is due next session, bring a population boom to Utopia and increasing its status to a level 2.

12. 3520: zzz

13. 3505: zzz

14. 3490: zzz

15. 3475: zzz

16. 3460: zzz

17. 3445: zzz

18. 3430: zzz

19. 3415: zzz

20. 3400:  Here is a nice little pic of the French and surrounding area.

Goals for this session:

1) Continue exploring and find the homeland of the French.
2) Build a military of warriors.
3) Build a public workforce to improve our lands.

1) Check, and it appears that we may be on an island with the French, so conquoring the island and becoming a seafaring nation may have to become priorities.

2) They are in construction now and will be completed on your turn.

3) You should also be able to get a worker out during your session and get those deer under our control.

Comments:

Though we are not overly endowed with resources, it would appear that our land is well equipped to build a military.  Hopefully we get some copper near our Capital and we can make an easy task of good old De Gaulle.

Everyone is talking Charriots, but we will have Bronze working in 15 turns.  An Axeman rush may be more profitable.

But why not let the French build a few more cities so we dont have to waste our time building settlers for the North and not to mention the insainly long time it takes to improve the land in Marathon speed.

Let them build a nice little Utopia and then we can send in a nice mix of forces to conquore the people.

By letting the french do all the leg work, we can essentially double our size in a fraction of the time.
