Well.. my son.. the future Civ player.. decided to run off with my disc.  So.. I went to Amazon and picked up a (mostly) new one.

It got here.. and I realized it was CivIII Complete instead of the Gold that I had.

So, I had to uninstall Gold and install Complete.

Question - Will my Gold save work with Complete? If so, how do I transfer them over?

Also, I'm having some installation problems.  Trying to uninstall and re-install.  Further details if it doesn't work.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be needing Complete help.  I seem to remember there's some new stuff with the add-ons that confuzzled me.. So everyone be ready :p

Gold is just Vanilla, right? Or is it Vanilla + PTW?

Either way, assuming you were completely patched, your save should work in the proper game. Complete comes with Vanilla, PTW, and Conquests. Simply open your save in whichever expansion you were playing in.

Conquests is, btw, much much better than either of its predecessors. My advice would be to just ditch that old save and start a new one :p

Gold is Vanilla + PTW.

Ok.. got it installed.. Everything's working.. And I think you're right PSweet.. I think I'll re-start the game.  Didn't like this layout anyway.

Yeah... just grabbed my old saves from where I'd saved 'em and it loaded right up.

All right.. I'm going to get a game going and I'll be pokin' at y'all for help on things like new wonders and resources.

Makes sense that "Complete" would be "Civ3+PTW+Conquests" since that is the complete set of civ3 products.

Psweet is right. Conquests is by far and away better than either PTW or Civ3 Vanilla. We all spent many, MANY hours on Conquests here on this site, and we could probably go back and enjoy a good 3 or 5 games honing it back to Emperor Difficulty play.

Seem to recall about a year or so ago, I popped in my Conquest CD and started  a game on Monarch, and it royally kicked my butt! This despite the fact that, once upon a time, I could beat virtually any Monarch game I was met with, and pretty often been Emperor! I hate to admit it with Civ4, cause of how much they've pissed me off with their patches and expansions, but it is the same with the new one too. After 6 months of no playing I've dropped down from Prince Difficulty to finding Noble challenging

Replayability is not the right word for these games. It really involves an entire kind of mindset.

Ok... the story so far..

I'm playing the Hittites.. Never played them before. Don't know what their special unit is.

Ohhhhhhhh.. and a GREAT thing about Complete and explains why y'all were confused.  There's a 'Game Limits' button that allows me to tweak how long I play... # of turns (up to 1000), % of the world conquered, etc etc..

I'm confused about the new resources... i.e. tobacco, sugar, et. al. Are they like Game basically and just add a bonus?'

The new wonders are throwing me a curve.  Wasn't aware to pre-build for the Temple of Artemis. Going to have to look REAL hard at the future advances to see what's coming up that I want and need to plan for.

Is this a blast from the past for y'all?

ah yes.  sounds like my first game of Conquests.

Lets see...  the Civipedia should answer 95% of the new item's questions really quickly...  or there was a really nice PDF made by several fans on civfanatics...  I can't remember who at the moment though.  Print out of it, or keep it open and task swap between them.

Yeah, the new resources are just bonuses, not required for anything.  The exception would be ivory, a luxery, which is required to build the Statue of Zeus.  This wonder is a monster, let me tell you, one of the only wonders in Ancient age I think worth building.

And the Hittites' unit is the three-man chariot.  It sucks, simply put.

I didn't remember tobacco as a resource in vanilla Civ3 Conquests. I thought that that was only added in like the Rise and Rule mod or something? Maybe what they did with Civ3 Complete was include some of the stuff from the fan mods that developed after Conquest had been out for a couple years.

Anyway, Grish, there are some REALLY good mods out for Conquests, which I suspect you'd be able to run. Most of them are on file over at Civfanatics. You've basically got a couple years of gameplay ahead of you with that game.

Ugh.. just went to the Victory screen and found out it's STILL limited to 1000 turns.

Liking this layout though. People are encroaching though. Dropped some cities right next to them to try to culture flip 'em.

Had a REAL issue with Civil Disorder in many cities for a while. Drove me nuts. Luxuries are scarce around me at the moment.

So, I'm about halfway through the game turns-wise.. And none of the AI civs will trade techs with me.. So I'm stuck as a backwater. I'm building cities and cities, but don't have the iron.. or coal.. or luxuries..

So.. the Aztecs whom I'm abutted against kept trying to steal some territory that I've earmarked. So I'm at war. Again..

I can't seem to build troops fast enough or get techs fast enough.  What the heck!!??
