LC and NESS, DYNASTY IV

Skill Level:    Emperor

World Size:    HUGE

Speed:            Marathon

Climate:         Temperate

Geography:    Fractal

Water Level: Average

CIVILIZATION:      The Dutch

The Turns:

1. 4000BC: We have founded the city of Utopia.  We are rich in Gold, Corn, Incents, Wine, and Wheat.  We will have to wait for the fruits and smells of some of these land bonuses, but compared to our last start, we are rich in resources.

2. 3985: I start our tech path towards Mining so that we may one day mass produce our gold.  On a side note, I think we would do well to get an early religion in this game.

3. 3970: Our warrior explorers have found a small tribe SW of Utopia.  They give us thier maps of the world.

4. 3955:

5. 3940:

6. 3925:

7. 3910: We have met an American scout.  These seem pleasant enough.

8. 3895

9. 3880: Utopia builds our second Warrior unit.  To make this happen as fast as it did, I worked a forested Hilly plains.

I have now started building a worker.  These early turns will see very little growth in our capital, but having an early worker will help exponentially in the near future.

10. 3865: We have been given more maps by local tribesmen.

11. 3850

12. 3835: Local Tribesmen

13. 3820

14. 3805: We have met a Carthagenian scout.  It would appear that we have more than one competitor on our land mass.  Possibly a heck of a lot more.

15. 3790

16. 3775

17. 3760: Our defending warriors have fended off a pack of lions.  They are hurt in the battle and fortify to regain strength to fight another day.

18. 3745

19. 3730: With 8 turns till the discovery of mining, a local tribe gives us the secrets.  A little crappy that it wasn't a different technology, but at a savings of 8 turns it is nothing to sneeze at.

I start Mysticism so that we may one day master our very own religion.

20.

21.

22.

23. 3655: Our exploring Warriors have encountered a lions den.  We hide in the forest and then slaughter them as they pursue us.  We lost men in the millie, but the survivors come out of the battle with valuable experience.

24.

25. 3625: We have met a group of Babylonian explorers.  They seem friendly enough, but we take caution.  This seems to be a big world we live in, and its filling up with other groups fast.

Our warriors that met the Babylonians also visit a local tribal village and discover that they actually keep prey, such as cattle and pigs, in inclosures instead of hunting them.  What a novel idea.  They call it Animal Husbandry.

26. 3610

27. 3595: We have met the English.  Boy are we in for a dynamic political world.

28. 3580: Buddhism has been found in a distant land.  I had no dreams of us discovering this first.  But I was thinking about Judaism.

29. 3565: We have met the Portuguese.  The world truly is full of culture.

We will have to move into our most desired places fast and define our boarders before we get squeezed out into the ocean.

30. 3550: Our defending Warriors have been attacked by a pack of wolves.  They easily repel the attack and are promoted to Woodsmen I

Here is the entire map:

And here is the area surrounding Utopia:

Things are looking good, but if want success, we must play a near perfect game!

Ok. Not much to say here. Early in your session, you will get a new warrior, Utopia will grow again, and you may choose to work on a settler... or not. You will also get Hinduism and can take it from there. Other than that, there isn't much to do at this point.

4th Utopian Era
2nd Coerulean Era

Goals:

1) Establish our secondary city and secure the horses.
2) Continue Exploration and find our rivals homelands.
3) Build up our military, inc. warriors and chariots.
4) train more workers.
5) Make a move developing a writing system.

2650 BC.

8 gp in coffers, 90 percent science spending, +2 gpt, Masonry in 1 turn

We have met Britain, Babylon, Carthage, Khmer, Portugal, USA

Turn 1) 2635 BC- We have discovered Masonry and have set a course for Writing. Science spending resumed at 100 percent, meaning we shall develop the Writing system, oh, in about 26 turns.

Meanwhile, up north, our warrior explorers are being stared down by a ferocious pack of lions in some lush cow pastures.

Turn 2) 2620 BC- Our warriors easily destroy the lions, take refuge in the woods, only to encounter bears. They high tail it in the other direction, hoping to find cover where they can restore their strength.

In the south, meanwhile, our warriors are staring down a pack of lions in the woods, across a river banks.

And back at home, farmers near the amateur vineyards have learned how to tame Prairie Dogs and are selling them as pets. We are developing plans to tax them extra for their profits as soon as we can make use of their lands!

Turn 3) 2605 BC- Our southern warriors easily defeat the lions and are not wounded, and thus continue exploring.

Up north, our warriors are still trying to find safe ground. Now they are running for their lives from bears AND wolves!!!

Turn 4) 2590 BC- Finally, our northern explorers are able to rest!

Turn 5) 2575 BC- Exploring.

Turn 6) 2560 BC- Exploring.

Turn 7) 2545 BC- Exploring.

Turn 8) 2530 BC- Exploring.

Turn 9) 2515 BC- In the south, our explorers are ambushed by a pack of wolves. They soundely crush them, with minor wounds.

In the north, our warriors ambush a pack of wolves, they pulverize them, but are badly, terribly, decimated. They will surely have to rest for awhile, before continuing their explorations.

All the while, back at home, our first band of hardy settlers are ready to leave Utopia and seek out new territories for our empire. We give them orders to head North East in proximity to the wild horses, and on the coast, so that we may be able to utilize the horses for the greater defence of the homeland!

Our warrior in Utopia had been sent out as an advance scout to ensure the settlers have safe passage through the wild.

In Utopia, meanwhile, we recommence with the training of more warriors.

Turn 10) 2500 BC- Exploring.

Turn 11) 2490 BC- Some kinda historian ranks the nations of the world in terms of their size. We currently rank as the 3rd largest nation in the world. We're not doing to bad, and we are also ranked #1 in score amongst all the known nation. Here here!!!!!

Turn 12) 2480 BC- Exploring.

Turn 13) 2470 BC- In the south, our warriors encounter unfriendly barbaric warriors that look JUST like them. Not sure what to do, they back away ever so slowly, then turn around and run as fast as they can.

Turn 14) 2460 BC- And they run smack into more fercious looking warriors, but these misfits are carrying in their hands bows and arrows. It does not look good.

At home, our nations second city, Aptly titled Port Amsterdam has been established. We immediately set them to work training more warriors for our tribe.

Turn 15) 2450 BC- As expected, we receive word that our warriors have been slaughtered in the south, it's a jungle out there!

In Utopia, we train us some more warriors to hold down the fort, and begin training some more to send out to explore our near South West.

We also drop scientific spending down to 80 percent to avoid bankruptcy so that we may better be able to manage our new towne. This slightly impacts our ETA on the writing.

Turn 16) 2440 BC- Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Turn 17) 2430 BC- Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Turn 18) 2420 BC- Our northern explorers finally heal, and the exploring spirit is revived.

Turn 19) 2410 BC- We discover a new tribe, The Koreans and their homeland in the far north.

Turn 20) 2400 BC- Science spending amped up to 90 percent, ya.

Turn 21) 2390 BC- Zzzzzzzz

Turn 22) 2380 BC- Exploring.

Turn 23) 2370 BC- Utopia trains warriors, begins working on a barracks for the moment.

Turn 24) 2360 BC- Exploring

Turn 25) 2350 BC- Utopia grows to size 4 and shifts gears from the barracks to training some more workers for our nation.

Turn 26) 2340 BC- Our newly minted warriors encounter barbarian warriors in the south west. they attack, we win. Our boys are promoted to woodsman I. They rest.

Turn 27) 2330 BC- Science spending dropped to 80 percent to net us some gold before we pick up the Writing.

Turn 28) 2320 BC- Science spending dropped to 70 percent to net us even more gold a turn before we pick up Writing.

Turn 29) 2310 BC- Writing hath been discovered. Pretty much everyone will sign an open borders agreement with us. I will leave that to you.

The cultural boundaries of Port Amsterdam have expanded.

There is an barbarian archer stalking us in the north. Be wary.

We set a path for the Priesthood. Science spending at 80 percent, with a surplus of 1 gpt.

Turn 30) 2300 BC- I have put a tag on where the barb archer is right now, in the north. I've moved out of sight, but he is there.

Goals:

1) Establish our secondary city and secure the horses.
2) Continue Exploration and find our rivals homelands.
3) Build up our military, inc. warriors and chariots.
4) train more workers.
5) Make a move developing a writing system.

====================================

1) Check. The horses are secure, we just need to get a worker up there to build the pasture.
2) We've found Korea. The others' homelands remain elusive.
3) Two warriors trained, another on the way, not quite yet to chariots.
4) in 6 turns we shall have another worker.
5) Check.
====================================

You know what to do. There are a lot of technologies that we need. I am thinking maybe if we go after Priesthood (15 turns), link up the marble, get the Bronzeworking (listed as 29 turns away) we can do some chop/chop and get the Oracle, then we'd be able to pick up Code of Laws and Confucianism with the free tech from the Oracle.

I've marked several future city sites. Please feel free to adjust them as you see fit.

Other than that, it's all yours.

The Year is 2300BC.  We are 15 turns away from discovering Priesthood, which will be a step in getting our very own religion!  Things are looking good for the Utopian people.  We are in control of two cities.  We have wealth and luxury!

Goals for this session:

1 -Move us on route to military expansion.  Our concern now... BARBARIANS
2 -Start the ball rolling on a third city
3 -make major improvements to our infastructure, starting with changing the land to more productive purposes.

The Turns:

1. 2290

2. 2280

3. 2270

4. 2260

5. 2250

6. 2240

7. 2230

8. 2220

9. 2210: We are given the 11 Stables task.  If or when we complete this great task, we will be given a mysterious reward (possibly upgrades for our mounted units or free mounted unit, not sure, I have never completed this one myself)

10. 2200

11. 2190

12. 2180

13. 2170: We have discovered priesthood

14. 2160

15. 2150

16. 2140

17. 2130

18. 2120

19. 2110

20. 2100

21. 2090

22. 2080

23. 2070

24. 2060

25. 2050

26. 2040

27. 2030

28. 2020

29. 2010

30. 2000:

Alright, I flew through that session, but I got us some preliminary work done.  Port Amsterdam is a fairly productive city now (though it could use a workshop or two in the area) and Utopia is well on its was to building a settler.

I would build our new city to the South of Utopia (where the warrior is) to define our southern boarder.  The Americans are coming up that way fast (you'll see their boarders).

I also have our workers building a quarry which will get us the Oracle fast.  It wont be read and supply Utopia with Marble for at least 15 turns (including the roadway that will be needed to transport the marble).  But we should see a boost to Oracle production very fast!!!

And we should also consider charriots to fend off the Barbarians.  I was seeing a lot during my session, which makes be believe that we are going to have somewhat of a problem very soon.  Port Amsterdam is currently building a charriot, but I would like to see a Charriot in every city asap.

Cheers.

Turn 8) 1920 BC- Zzzzzzzz

Turn 9) 1910 BC- What a significant turn.

First, our third city, Euphoria has been founded to the south, just north of the American city of Boston. Our citizenry begin building walls around the city to protect themselves from the Americans.

Second, we have discovered the technology of Bronze Working, and oh, to our delight, we unearth a gigantic copper ore deposit just to the south of Utopia, in the hills. What wonders this does for our production of the Oracle.

We have now set our sights on the Pottery.

Finally, our workers have completed the quarry to facilitate the excavation of large deposits of the marble. It is only a matter of time before roads are built to bring the marble to Utopia to assist in our big project.

Turn 10) 1900 BC- Zzzzzzzz

Turn 11) 1890 BC- Zzzzzzzzzz

Turn 12) 1880 BC- Port Amsterdam completes the Chariot, begins another. We send out one of her warriors to do some exploring.

Our warrior battles barbarian warriors on the gem hills north of Port Amsterdam and emerges victorious in the jungles. For now they rest.

Turn 16) 1840 BC- Road access to Marble has been completed. It is only a matter of time. Nonetheless, we don't want to take any chances. We order our workers to chop forrests around Utopia to bring in valuable resource.

Turn 17) 1830 BC- Zzzzzzzzzz

Turn 18) 1820 BC- Utopia grows, giving us a big productive boost in the city.

Turn 19) 1810 BC- Exploring.

Turn 20) 1800 BC- Exploring.

Turn 21) 1790 BC-

Our workers have cut a full plot of forest near Utopia, the Oracle draws near.

Turn 22) 1780 BC-

We have learnt the arts of pottery. We now set our sights on the Monotheism to yield the full fruits of Organized Religion.

Exploring warrior is assulted by archer near Babylonian city of Dur... We emerge victorious. The warrior is sent into the city to receive proper treatment and is promoted to level one woodsman.

Port Amsterdam trains Chariot, begins training workers.

New Chariot sent to Euphoria.

Turn 23) 1770 BC- Zzzzzzzz

Turn 24) 1760 BC- Euphoria culture grows.

Turn 25) 1750 BC- Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Turn 26) 1740 BC- 1740 BC. A year to remember.

Importantly, we have completed the Oracle, Discovered Code of Laws, Entered the Classical Era and had founded the Confucianism in the Port Amsterdam! And to top it off we have jumped into first place! What a day!!!!

We have plunged into Anarchy to transition to a state sanctioned Confucian society. All Hail Master Confucius!!!

Turn 27) 1730 BC- We have emerged from Anarchy safe and sound.

Utopia begins training worker.

Chariot arrives in Euphoria.

Turn 28) 1720 BC-

Turn 29) 1710 BC-

We've signed open borders agreement with Portugal. That makes everybody

[b]Turn 30) 1700 BC-[b] Confucian missionary from Port Amsterdam spreads the faith to Utopia.

Goals:

1) Establish our third city.
2) Continue Exploration.
3) Build up our military chariots for all cities.
4) Build Oracle and establish a Code of Laws.

====================================

1) Check.
2) We've mapped out parts of the Babylonian homeland.
3) Two Chariots, one for each of our peripheral cities.
4) Hell Yeah!!!!!
====================================

It sure is great when everything goes according to plan, isn't it.

We are in GREAT shape right now. We got the Oracle and everything with it. I am currently building some workers in two of our cities because we desperately need them. It would be great if we could get those gold mines bringing in income near Euphoria. Financially we should be able to support a fourth city without taking to much of a hit, asap. I am thinking we go due north of Port Amsterdam to head off Babylonia, plus that would give us access to not only spices, but gems as well. I think that area is a must! I'll let you decide where specifically though.

With a little luck, the bronze ore, we are set up well for the future, militarily as well.

At one point Korea asked us to cancel our Opne Borders with Khmer. I did not do it, but it got me thinking about long term strategy. At their request I signed an Open Borders with Pretty much everyone. I am suggesting we develop of strategy to try and cultivate allies at the expense of some of the less friendly civs, even if it means canceling agreements when requested. Curious to see how you deal with such things.

This took me a little longer to get to than I thought.  But I will have a lot more time to play these now!!

Alright, the year is 1700BC.  No one we know of has discovered an alphabet, thus no tech trading yet.  There are also no roads or waterways connecting our empire to others, thus no resource trading yet.

We are running an 80% science rate with no deficit, so we are doing pretty well with our three cities this early in the game.

Goals for this session:

1. Beef up our military with a couple of Axemen.  Barbarians shall not be an issue for us!

2. lead our tech path to discover an alphabet

3. Expand our empire and cultural influence.

The Turns.

1. 1690:

2. 1680

3. 1670

4. 1660

5. 1650: Barbarian boarders have been spotted west of Utopia!!!  Utopia has started the construction of Axemen to crush the savages.

6. 1640

7. 1630

8. 1620

9. 1610

10. 1600: Our chariots in Port Amsterdam successfully repel invading barbarian warriors.

11. 1590

12. 1580

13. 1570: We have discovered monothesim and in the process net 23 gold pieces.  We are currently running a 2 gold per turn deficit due to our new military units, so this little monetary surplus will come in handy.

Research has begun on an alphabet, which will take 48 turns :?

14. 1560

15. 1550: OUr Warriors exploring the northern regions of the known world have encountered a new tribe calling themselves the Native Americans.  The offer us a thing called a Peace Pipe, which was full of a wonderous herb that they burnt and breathed in.  These guys are alright.

16. 1540

17. 1530

Alright. Lets Discuss.

Right now, America and Korea are Pleased with us. Everyone else remains cautious.

I think we should avoid alliance building with Nations we plan on conquering. Even if we do not pursue a milataristic victory, we are likely to wage war with, at the very least, our closest neighbors.

This would mean Babylon, America and perhaps Portugal.

We should not waste efforts forming alliances with these nations.

Better candidates might include Korea, Khmer, England, Native Americans, Carthage.

Perhaps one from the East (Korea or Khmer?) and one from the West (Carthage?), at the very least.

Another thing to consider is the strength of our allies. It may be difficult to maintain an alliance with a strong opponent. They are also our competitors, even if they may be distant. I think it is still to early to determine who will be strong and weak.

I will work on nurturing an alliance with Korea, as they are already favorable with us.

We should cater to Korea's sensibilities as much as possible. If it means war with a nation that is unlikely to harm us (such as Khmer, or someone else we cannot see on the map), we should help them out. Declaring war on Babylon, at Korea's request, for example, if we were not ready for it would be most unwise.
If they ask for technology, def. gift it. If they want us to change civics or religion, probably not, but if they want us to stop trading someone, we probably should.

I have learned that such "appeasements" are necessary on the emperor level if you want to succeed in forging alliances.

There is also a void of religion in most of our neighbours. It would probably be a good idea to get some Confucian missionaries to those we seek alliance with.

I am now curious to hear your opinion on these things.

Cheers,

LC.

I think Korea is our most likely ally.

The Americans are our most likely civ to conquer first.  I think they will be weak due to their marginal land to the south and because we have stopped their progress north.

The Babylonians have both good land and are our neighbors.  War with them will not be a good idea till much later in the game (atleast until we have a major technological advantage.

Carthage will be our other neighbor.  They have more room to expand then the Americans, however, that might mean an American war with Carthage.  Given that scenario, I would recommend keeping our American relations at a distant and having somewhat warm relations with Carthage (but nor too warm as war with them is somewhat likely too).

For the time being, I would recommend a strong alliance with Korea.  See where the political game goes for a while.  Also, keep somewhat warm ties with Babylon and to a lesser extent Carthage.  And keep our American relations sparse.

Also, getting some missionaries out there is not a bad idea.  We should get our religion growing, for both the alliance issue and more importantly the monetary and espionage bonuses.
