Sounds like a fun one, Scip. You've gotta admit that a couple of those neighbors tend to be pretty warmonger-like themselves. Go take those cities back and make them PAY!

I'm up through about 1500AD maybe, if not more. Lots of battles, and those 2 neighbors mentioned above started the war that I just now finished. I'm starting to feel the burn of no tech-trading as a couple of nations are doing so well on techs that it irritates me. I should probably send some cavalry there to show my displeasure, but I'm afraid they'll be going up against infantry by the time they arrive. This could be an interesting one. I have generated quite a few Great Generals so far.

Does anyone else have any updates they care to share? Yeah, its not even December yet, but maybe some others are playing this one.

I tend to play pretty slowly anyway so Epic speed is, um, well slow so nowhere near AD yet. Not a bad start position at all and that gold and nearby gems are a lifesaver. Decided I could not afford to have TWO such aggressive neighbours so am in the process of taking one out. Alas the other is taking advantage of the situation, but you can only do so much at a time. Aside from the Oracle which I used to grab Metalworking (for the forges) I have decided to let the other civilisations build Wonders for me which I will take, thank you very much. That's the plan. Might not work of course. Forward, faithful legions!

ADIT: phew, made it to AD. The nasty greenies are no more but the vicious saki-swigging sushi-choppers have just declared war, curse them! However, since I can see all their cities, mwahahahahahaaaa...

Sorry guys, I'm not able to make my units visible again. I'll try to reinstall civ4 if I have the time/ patience/ luck to find my discs again.

Spending the free points was fun. I did some test runs. If anyone is so inclined they could get 3 religions in one capital and create a huge financial monster. In the game I opted for 3 cities, 3 workers, 3 scouts and a bunch of techs. Curious what other people did with the dough.

Thoroughly recommend you investigate the "update drivers" button. Worked for me when the game kept crashing and I had weird graphics artefacts.

I'd strongly recommend Omega drivers before you re-install.

On my previous slow PC, it sped things up drastically as well.

Ah, I already updated drivers, but that alone doesn't fix the problem. I'm off to Europe in a week, so I'll have to postpone the reinstall.

So there's general Cao Cao sitting contentedly in a newly-conquered city on a hill. He's feeling pretty good with over 50XP's and recently promoted to maceman, with full health. Along comes a rogue enemy crossbow and, blam, my general is dead. OK so he was getting on a bit, having been with me for nearly two thousand years. But, really, it makes you doubt the integrity of the AI, it does

The 'random' algorithms for any combat involving a human Great General accoutred unit are patently corrupt. One of the most annoying piece of shite aspects of the game, but then I guess they wanted to undo the 'uber' unbeatable syndrome that Armies had in Civ 3. So instead, 'Armies' are totally worthless! Ah yeah, that makes sense.
