A suggestion was made elsewhere (ahem) that now might be a good time to start a new, non-serious D-game on this site. For those unfamiliar with the concept, it involves playing an actual game of CIV against the AI with all the decisions being made by an elected body of 1BC members with a President, King or Dictator actually playing the turns and reporting back progress, hopefully with pretty pictures and wit and not losing our warriors to a bunch of stupid lions. Hand in hand with this (usually) goes a motley collection of off-game roleplaying laugh-a-minute reparteé and general silliness which some of us find amusing, especially when drunk (sorry psweet but, hey, you might be 21 by now!) The problem in the past is that the D-game itself has become too serious/boring/easy and it has ground to a halt but I like Scipio's idea of a lighthearted, even weird game. This might involve playing a mod, or really mucking about with the settings. If you are interested in becoming an all-powerful Dictator who rules the world with an Iron Fist and can throw fellow 1BC members in the dungeon with a mere nod, then put your hand up and post your megalomanical ideas here. If this does take off, I think we may even see the return of Mr Fluffy and the 13th Axe, and Scip gets to have even more wives

Ah, top form leadership initiative, Mr. tones! Just what I like to see from you Imperials. Harumph! You'll go far, yes, I fancy you shall. I'm in, of course! With the caveat that I'm now working for "the man" and will no longer be able to compose grand, rousing, sweeping, tears-of-joy inducing, epic war histories, any longer...but I'm still good for some tea, swing, and woodchucks (or something like it, you understand). Plus I've lost my access to serious photoshopping from my previous employer...though I'm sure my five-year old son is good for whipping up some appropriate masterpieces with crayon and parchment (or I'll whip him till he produces). If we do Beyond the Sword or a funky mod, I'm pefectly content with merely role-playing...which is good, since that is all I would be able to do, anyway, since I don't have them...pfft! Anyhow, not sure how much time I'll have to play in some official government role that requires time-tables, eblow grease, beheading peasants, and drawing up exceedingly wordy and mind-boggling haughty constitutions that no one understands, except Mr. Madison, et. al. And if you're all really good, I might even keep my clothes on this time. Maybe...

In general, I don't care for mods, but I'm in... even if you do a lousy, stinkin' mod. Whatever we do we just got to make sure that it is thoroughly stupid, so that all us would-be bureacrats are never encouraged to turn things into continual and neveraending tedious, tendentious, tirades.

tones (9/1/2009) I was minded to compare this site to a sort-of-private Facebook, but, on reflection, that's not right . . . Nope. Here is a forum to exchange views and discuss topics and maybe have some literary fun; post some interesting pics (not Megabits of family krap); flag up some internet sites of Interest; pass on the occasional joke. To me, (struggling for analogy here) it's bit more like a quiet and cosy pub with locals you know and the occasional visitor from "outside"; thick stone walls and a cellar full of well-kept ale. Facebook, on the other hand, is some awful massive city-centre club that serves Fosters lager. And, you know what? I am not unhappy with that analogy. I prefer the pub.
