I think there's a scenario that came with Civ where you can be the Barbarians, isn't there?

Maybe we could be the Barbarians and reign our death and destruction down on that yucky "civilized" world.

Really? Is there? That sounds brilliant. We could dress Cleo up in bearskins and.. err.. bare skins and suchlike.

Hmmm... One mod I've had experience with, and I know Zig has as well is Fall from Heaven, a dark fantasyish mod for BTS. It even has the perfect civ for this type of game - the Balseraphs, a completely insane circus nation (one of the Balseraph leaders has an "Insane" trait, giving a 3% chance each turn of all other traits changing).

THAT sounds like an excellent idea! I vote for Balseraphs!

Indeed, as self-appointed megaloid, I INSIST on Balseraphs!

I'll DL and install it, so that would give us at least three players. Plus, it would restrict the players to just the elite cadre of 1BC which is always agood thing . . . gotta keep the peasants from having too much control and all . . . although the bareskins sounds pretty good too . . .

ADDIT: only major problem I see with Fall from Heaven is there is evidently a new version coming out Dec 16th, and therefore we'd be absolutely nuts to start up a game with that mod before then. On that basis, I think we should hold off on a FFH DGame.

I love the Balseraphs idea as well and, yes, it makes sense to hold off until the update.

Neat.

The Fall From Heaven mod gets patched frequently, especially after a new version has been launched.

The Balseraphs are a lot of fun, with the insane guy, Perpentach.

Definitely will yield interesting reports/ screen shots.

In the barbarian scenario you are a wandering tribe (no cities) and you can buy units/ upgrades with money from pillaging. It wears thin fast.

Meh.

I wish I had a computer that could handle cIV, but I don't. I'm content to sit on the sideline though.

No it's not dead, we were just waiting for the latest FALL FROM HEAVEN DL

I'll try and have a little play with this today. Stay tuned.

Yeah, I'm trying it out as well. I would advise waiting a week or two before starting the D-Game - in the first few weeks of the release patches are going to flow freely as the team fixes a lot of bugs, especially in the scenarios. The bug thread and current patch (they're up to "e") can be found here

OK.

I've had a quick play of this thing with the "e" patch. First off, it ran fine with no problems as yet. Second, it is totally insane.

But I mean that in a good way. There is a load of new stuff to learn. For example, you don't just send your scouts out wandering around like it's a nice summer's day outing. It's evil out there, and full of seriously bad, erm, things. The tech tree has gone plain weird, there's magic stuff to get your head round and then some giant turns up and eats your pig pasture. Oh, and whatever you do, don't go exploring goblin lairs without some mean firepower.

I think this would make a fine lighthearted D-game with a bit of a challenge as I'd imagine it would be unfamiliar to most of us. I found myself almost constantly muttering "WTF??? A tiger with +80% promo? A giant sea-tortoise? Smokehouses give a bonus for smoked toads???" And that was just the trial first half hour.

This looks like great fun.
