I've not managed to work my way up to the super high levels, I think I have prince pretty much sorted which I am happy with, although it does depend on the map type as I much prefer land based warfare. It does annoy me when you get a mass stack coming at you that you know is going to wipe you out but I suppose the trick is to put off the AI from attacking you until you are ready, so appeasement may be of use.

What I would really like to do is pit my wits against other humans which I am yet to do in a PBEM game. I have played the odd online game but quick games do not suit my style.

I would VERY much advise you to advertise on this site (or elsewhere) for a single partner for a PBEM game who is in the same position as you. PBEM's are much more satisfying than playing against the AI, BUT they take a long time and a lot of commitment. Ideally you want someone at the same stage as you because, frankly, anyone advanced could take you apart because humans are ruthless, unpredicable, treacherous and cunning. Oh, and they make bets.

Did I mention jerm owes me several fish suppers when I visit Utah?

Hey Genty, you know some of us are looking for a PBEM partner to fill in for Dave!!!!! You could jump into a well developed situation and learn from your teammate Ness. He plays on the emperor level to, so it's a fairly balanced game.

Yeah, but you are playing only one turn at a time. If he and Ness (this is a locked alliance game) have adequate discussion, they could easily develop a game plan. It would be a great way to learn. The PBEM is not being played on Emperor level, just some of the players operate that high. I think playing PBEM and Dynasty games are THE BEST way to learn this game.

I can't disagree with that. All it takes is a long term commitment.

It is quite fun for me to see how long I can last in these types of games, and what stops I can pull out to thwart an invader or to see if I can get myself into the space race before the top AI finishes it

Well maybe this is the part that I need to focus on: 'seeing how long I can last' is not really my style, but I guess there is some merit in it. I mean after all, it is the core of Fourth Generation Warfare as it was laid down in Mao's Little Red Book.

Lemme see how long I can last on Prince and I'll get back to you about your high falutin' Emprur's Klub

I thought about it but the thought of jumping into the middle of an already well developed game does not really appeal to me, I think I'd be a bit lost, any new games and I would be glad to play, even if you handed my arse to me on a plate with a candle in.
