Hey there! Welcome to 1BC!

The best experience may be playing it a little bit until you're familiar with the basics. From there, you might want to check out Tips & Tricks or Member Submitted Guides.

There's some good advice in there that should elevate your game a bit, but again, you might want to play it a time or two to get the basics down.

Welcome to 1BC!

Welcome!

I'm sure most of us started with the in game tutorials, and or tool tip type help... which are good enough to get the game play down and start to understand the dynamics of the game, but none of the subtle points we learned to exploit here, and elsewhere as a group. So start a game or two on easiest level and read/follow the promptings of the advisers... then come back for questions would be my advice.

well hmmm  I tried  the  tutorial... it started  out very helpful... then I got totally lost when the  prompts  were asking me  to go somewhere  and  I had  NOOO clue  how  to find where  to go.

I guess  I am back to reading the  manual and  playing by the  what I call WHIIPT method... or  what happens if  I press  this... lol.

My wife  bought this  game for me for Christmas... so.. I guess.. since  I am already totally lost.. I will lock and  load... hit a  key and  write  down what happens LOL. hell I have  all the time  in the  world... I am probably going to be  overrun and  destroyed 100 times before  I biuld  my first worthy defences  lol.

Perhaps looking at a member submitted game walk-through. with screen shots would help... Since we don't know what version your playing... it's hard to say, and direct you to the proper posts/files...

Do download a pdf file of all the keyboard commands, and what all the prerequisite techs for certain units/ game advances...

The manual is a little thin when it comes to actual working strategy but does cover the basics of the game quite well.

No shame on playing easy levels... most of us settled into a difficulty level lower than what we could play as we like the game, but not the micromanagement needed to play it at higher levels.

I believe you can play the entire game with the mouse alone, though I'm sure most of us use the keys off and on.  If you have the manual, you might want to keep it open on the page that shows what the keys do.

Make sure you start at the easiest difficulty setting initially.  You'll be moving up in no-time.  I felt I was darn good at CIV III but stunk for a while at CIV IV.

When you get the hang of it a bit, you might want to try the Beyond the Sword addon.  Its great and takes the game to where it should have been all-along.

Please keep us up to date on how things are going.
