Continents aren't named. Is this supposed to mean dont fight in huge landmasses? If so, why?

I take it to mean - don't take on the enemy in the area of their greatest strength.

Military tactics are like unto water; for water in its natural course runs away from high places and hastens downwards... Water shapes its course according to the nature of the ground over which it flows; the soldier works out his victory in relation to the foe whom he is facing. Therefore, just as water retains no constant shape, so in warfare there are no constant conditions. He who can modify his tactics in relation to his opponent and thereby succeed in winning, may be called a heaven-born captain.

-It's just a quote from The Princess Bride, not meant as actual advise.

I think Roadkill is correct.  Its attempted humor based on a quote from The Princess Bride.

Heh heh, I win, and Cleo said so, and she cannot be ignored Yes it's a quote from The Princess Bride and not actually a military maxim...

Vizzini: You only think I guessed wrong! That's what's so funny! I switched glasses when your back was turned! Ha ha! You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well-known is this: never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha...
Vizzini: [Vizzini stops suddenly, and falls dead to the right]
Buttercup: And to think, all that time it was your cup that was poisoned.
Man in Black: They were both poisoned. I spent the last few years building up an immunity to iocane powder.

....make what you will of that, but I still stand by my interpretation.

It may be a quote from the princess bride, but it is damn good advice.....

Look at what happens when ANYONE tries to go in to Afghanistan.

When the USA went in to Vietnam. (and yes, Tosk, I know... the politicians lost that war...but it is also the politicians that MAKE war to begin with)
Korea wasn't so much a loss as it was a stalemate.....

Certainly there are other debacles involving foreign powers going in to Asia and crawling home with their tails between their legs....

The point is, if you are going to make war, it certainly helps to know the situation on the ground, the terrain if you will. This is especially pertinent in rough terrain, such as the highlands of Afghanistan or the jungles of SE Asia....

...and what tones said, yes, I agree with that too.
