Would it be better for me to get the expansion or to get CivIV?

You can get the Expansion for about $5 in the bargain bin given that CivIV is out.

As to whether you should buy it... I still haven't bought it and there's a few that have told me to hold off.  The jury really is still out on it.

There's quite a few of us on here that still play III (like me )

CivIII Complete comes with the whole works. Got it for $15 on Amazon. It does have scenarios, but it also augments the main game by adding additional resources and other stuff.. More civilizations to play.

Ummmm... that kinda slaps it with a paintbrush.  It's been a bit since I've played Vanilla (basic, no add-ons), so I can't currently recall.

You gotta pick up the expansion pack. If you pay more than $10 for it, you're paying too much.

I just bumped myself up a notch also on CivIII and I'm debating on going back down to Chieftan myself

-Two expansions, Play the World and Conquests. You can find the original game and both expansions bundled in Complete or Deluxe Editions(Same thing, different packaging), and the bundles will be cheaper than buying both expansions seperately.

Complete Edition on Amazon

If you are playing Civ3, get the Conquests expansion: EXCELLENT. Will have many months of playing with that.

When that gets old, buy Civ4, and the Beyond the Sword Expansion. Also worth many months, or at least weeks of fun.

The Warlords expansion for Civ4 is also pretty good, but basically just amounts to some fun scenarios.

As far as I know, anything else is pretty much superfluous (e.g., Play the World, etc.).

Also, once you get these things, immediately patch up to the latest versions online.
