Welcome to the 1BC 2009 Dgame thread.

We've set ourselves a challenge and ANYONE is invited to participate. In this thread you'll view the continuing record of a Civilization game played out by successive "dictators" (all 1BC members) who are trying to beat the AI at Emperor level.

This is Montezuma (aka Onebigchoppah) of the Bigchop tribe, somewhere in the steamy lands of Rainforest World. Our task is to take turns leading this band of fierce warriors and fertile maidens to ensure their survival and victory in the undoubtably challenging years ahead.

This will not be an easy task. There are six enemy civilisations out there with random leaders, so we won't even know how they will behave when we meet them. The start position is not exactly spectacular either, but at least it's not jungle-bound. We have one settler, and one measly scout.

The enemy has significant advantages at emperor level so we shall be making the best use of our frightening Jaguar warriors that we can. I mean, you'd be frightened if you met this guy in the woods at night wouldn't you?

Anyone who wishes to "have a go" can participate. Terms will initially comprise 25 turns and you'll be expected to produce a report at the end (in this thread) detailing your achievements and post the current gamesave position which the next leader will then take up.

This is the ceremonial headdress each leader will be expected to wear; otherwise no-one will obey you. If you do well as leader (according to the tribal eldars) you will be rewarded with golden kudos. If, however, you lead us into trouble, you will become a favoured ornament for the altar...

Thanks, Tones. Now I get to bring back my Nukow alternate persona.

So, who is going to start it off!?

A couple of suggestions to the potential dictators.

1st, please submit screenshots.  It will keep the rest of us in the loop of changes, meetings with foreign leaders, etc.  I think it helps people feel like part of it and enables the peanut gallery to pipe in with suggestions more frequently and feel like they're part of it.

2nd off, if you normally don't venture into Emperor difficulty settings, please play it anyways.  If we lose... who cares?  Lets challege ourselves and have fun.  Lets put mud and paint on Tones (I've got dibs on Cleo!) and have a little fun with this.  I think we'll have fun even if we get a resounding beat-down handed to us.  If we do, its Tones's fault.

Alright.... someone start this thing off for us, would ya?

My name is Chalchihuahua, directly descended from the gods (and some fierce creatures from the woods). Do my bidding vile vermin and all will be well--for a while. You there, Onelittlechoppah! Go stand on that hill and report what you see.

Gold! GOLD! Hold on, hold on, it looks like the place is overrun with jungle. Let's send forth another group of settlers in a thousand years or so. We'll make our home on these wide open grounds for now.

All right, here is the plan and as I'm the master, let's call it the master plan. We need ships to get to those lovely clams. They look like something some of us might sometimes want to feast on, if we really have to. Onelittlechoppah, run over to that gold, see what else you find. Let's also train some of our youth to get killed for the greater good. It's not as if we can wall off the place and lead a sheltered life...

There is silver near the gold and plenty of food, truly a site to be settled soon. Onesmallchoppah made a friend, excellent. His name is Choppee. I've crushed some beetles to read their yellow life juices and I fear that Choppee will live up to his name. Our cultural influence has grown! Quick, let's forage in that forest.

*weasily wizard* Your lordship, I implore you, the people need religion! The people need food! The people need hammers! Do the people really need bows and arrows?
*Chalchihuahua* You are one of the people. Only I stand apart from them. My decisions stand. I will not retract them, not a single one, not ever. You will assist in this discovery or be clubbed senseless.

X marks the spot where we spotted a wee scout of a rather creepy fellow:

The scout continued north, so it seems likely his home is south (south east?). Our own exploring is slow for obvious reasons and more and more panthers are on the prowl.

We need to grow the city and finish our boat building at the same time. That way we'll have more resources available to squeeze out a quick worker.

Perhaps my premonition about Choppee was tainted? Could have sworn his would be a short life...

Here he is again, sending us treasure from up north.

More foul beasts stalking him.

Choppee has been useful to our machinations, but the life juices do not lie. Let us bleed a thousand rats to death in his honor.

Two more turns until growth and production.

The place is teeming with panthers. Onelittlechoppah is just south of Tenochtitlan. Exploring is slow; better to wait until we have our UU. Focus on getting settlers and workers in place. Speaking of workers, just by snatching workers with our UU we should be able to contain our closest neighbors. The AI does not sense forest-walking units as a danger when they're two tiles away...

So: Fishing --> Archery --> Agriculture --> Mining
That should set us up until we get iron working. Our UU does not need metal... It was a bit of a toughie picking techs at first, but on higher levels Archery is invaluable. (On deity you'll have barb archers on turn 10!)

I think that is the second religion founded (christianity first).

Two great places for settlement. FOUR grassland food sources, that just screams great people farm (or pop rush heaven).

My son is sick and just woke up, so not as much time for the second part. Oh well, what's done is done. I hope we'll really use our civ's traits, UU and UB in this game. Next, anyone? Come on, I didn't do that badly!

Surely a god has walked amongst us? Lo, he has brought fecundity to our womenfolk and inspiration to our shaman. He has blessed the region with wonderful bounty which we shall exploit shamelessly. Let us praise him and sacrifice seven virgins .... no, that's a waste of virgins, how about more rats then.... we shall sacrifice several rats in his honour. May the next GodKing be as wise and benificent.

We shall chant the ancient Aztec chant:

Onebigchoppah! Onebigchoppah! We've got a bow and it's a whoppah!

Hopefully we can update this chant as our technology progresses

Great job, Zig... errr... I mean Chalchihuahua.  Loved the screenshots.  Surely we have been blessed with a fine 1st leader.

I'll grab the next 25 in about an hour if no one else claims it in the meantime.
