It was fun to play against the same civ, but like morienglyndwr, I was confused at which Montezuma was which in diplomacy. Example: Montezuma wants you to stop your deals with Montezuma. Well.... which one is asking and which one is he wanting you to cancel your deals with? Or Montezuma makes Montezuma his vassal. You can figure that one out, but it was confusing. I would have liked to have seen different names for the leaders (if nothing else, then Montezuma1, Montezuma2, etc).

It was fun and a bit of a challenge with so many war mongers out there. I started the game thinking I was going to play my most aggressive game ever, but I still got war declared on me 1st and was at war most of the game.

NC, that was exactly the challenge point at which we should handle with, and what makes this game interesting.

Not knowing which Montezuma is that one that is talking to you makes this game so challenging.

Nope, it makes it frustrating and absurd, and causes you to shout at the screen, throw your mouse down and vow not to play another turn.

I'm afraid I haven't finished it, and I doubt I will. Sorry.

Sorry Tones,  hate to disagree with you, but . . . it is not _this_ PBEM that causes you to do that stuff, it is continuing to play Civ4 BTS long after the game was past the "fun and replayable" stage

Seriously though . . . do you guys still ENJOY this game (un-modded Civ4 BTS)? If so, I SALUTE you! If not, why keep playing? There are lots of other games you know

I still have it installed on my laptop, mostly because I have a couple pretty cool mods that were somewhat entertaining that I might eventually play again (as well that new and better mods are likely to keep coming), but have not played it at all for weeks or months.

Well, um, yes I do quite enjoy it as a diversion. The latest patch is really quite good and the AI is not a walkover. Thing is, Scip, it IS the only game I come back to and there aren't "lots of other games" that appeal to me. I'm still waiting as far as that's concerned. I have tried the recommendations of those on this site (including yourself) and elsewhere, but nothing in the last few years has enthused me. At best they last a couple of months; at worst they annoy the **** out of me (need I mention Total Frustration?)

I don't think the products of today are necessarily worse than those of the past (though it must be more difficult to come up with an original idea almost by definition) - just that I have passed the peak in the bell curve of enthusiasm

The last game that _really_ kept my attention in that way was Civ3, but I don't think that that can be 'representative' because when I bought Civ3, it was the first game I had bought in about 10 years. With Civ 1 being the one preceding that, and arcade games (the ones in which you insert quarters at the arcade at the mall) being pretty much the sum total of my "computer gaming" experience before that.

Civ4 was a lot of fun for quite some time, but I frankly think I played it long past when I really was not enjoying that much any more, more or less just because I _wanted_ to enjoy it as much as I had enjoyed Civ3. It is amazing how long Civ 4, and BTS has kept ya'll's attention! More power to ya I say!

The flight sim games (IL-2; Battle of Britain) I think are going to keep me busy for quite some time. They are really quite difficult to play, and to advance up to being really good at them is going to take me literally months assuming playing a couple hours each day, and maybe a bit more on weekends. At this stage, I'm playing IL-2 like it is almost a turn-based game (using the autopilot to zip through long dull periods of cruising, and then using the slow down button for dogfights, even using pause sometimes to keep my 'situational awareness'). I still don't really have a clue what I'm doing with either IL-2 or BoB, and that is playing on absolutely EASIEST difficulties and using cheats like the pause button. That to me is what a "great game" amounts to: one that keeps me thinking and learning. Once I figure them out, and 'doing better,' or scoring higher, or winning it with the 14th different permutation is what there is left to do, they become boring to me.

In my case I really enjoy this game, but my biggest preference is multiplayer mode instead of single player. I just play single when there isn't anyone avaible in my MSN to go with multi.

But I think that for those guys that don´t enjoy civ IV in any mode the releaseing of civ V is the solution !

Poor turnout this month. It looks like maybe Carlucas is the winner of this month.

Congrats, Carlucas!
