I'm a complete noob when it comes to this game. I have Civ4 Gold/ Warlords. Other than the occasional time victory on the lowest level, I'm pretty much hopeless.

I'm looking for specific recommendations on map size, settings, options, and victory conditions. My plan is to play through several of these scenarios to help isolate the areas that I'm having troubles with.

Too often when browsing forums like this I see specific information pertaining to levels/goals that I don't/can't play.

Thanks!

You can usually apply the ideas involved in the higher level discussions at the lower levels with much success. However, since your asking general questions... At lower levels the player has advantages to building rates and such to the AI... Thus you can out build them, and out science research them. Don't expect to finish the tech tree in any game without trading techs, but even with trading with the AI it still will be very difficult to get to the modern era and it's "fun" military units in a normal length game. That leaves you with trying a conquest victory against 3-4 AI on a small or medium map, and for basic learning I like pangaeas as you don't have to worry about finding the other land masses, getting troops there... try rushing the techs for a mobile fast unit, a decent defender and a good all around attack infantry unit in each era. Quickly build as many units as possible and take on an AI or two one at a time, with a mix of one fast, three inf, and at least one defender in a stack, and a couple extra defenders tagging behind to hold the new land... the more stacks the better! When you start bogging down, and facing units almost the same strength... settle for peace and any techs/gold/cities they will give... Rush tech for the next better unit... rinse and repeat. See how this process effects their attitudes towards you. Try to pick one AI as a friend, and pit yourself and that AI against another larger one with diplomacy...

As I stated in your other thread, post a save... let us see if we can change how you see the game... or maybe read one of the other threads that posted alot of pictures in the legends and tall tales folder...

If I had to give just one piece of advice. MONEY.
Check out my top posting on this thread if you like.

If you want a leg up, I'd choose a civ with a 'financial' trait.
The "Member Submitted Guides" section has invaluable hints and strategies, in my opinion. LINK

Likewise on the Tips & Tricks section. LINK

You can get a lot from those 2 sectons. Hope that helps.

I have never tried the Pangaea map. I'll do that exculsively from here on out.

So far I've been able to win Time, and Conquest victories on the small globe maps, but only on Settler (using Mongolia). Any tougher difficulty levels and they have me easily out scienced and out manufactured (bigger military).

I'm not sure what is meant by 'post a save' though. Is there a particular screen shot you folks want?
