Thanks to Civ Masters for this month's game!

This is 1BC's and CBR's official Beyond the Sword Game of the Month for Sep 2009. BTS version 3.17 or 3,19 is required for play.

A Tectonics Pagaea game. The dificulty is Monarch, but that shouldn't be as much problem as it'll be the fact that you'll be either at permanent war or at permanent peace. The Permanent War or Peace IS ACTIVATED. You can't trade techs, also.

You Civ is Greece and your leader is Alexander, who is very Aggressive and Philosophical.

Your Start Point:

Highest Normalized Score with ANY victory condition will be declared BTS GOTM Champion for August.

When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. You may post the screenshot in the GOTM thread and then Email your final save (hopefully one turn just before victory) to gotm@1bcciv.com. Saves should be named as follows: [username]Sep09BTS.CivBeyondSwordSave

Submissions will be accepted until October 9th

What are the rules?
The rules are fairly simple: Play fairly.

This means that you play within the spirit of the competition. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Any persons found to be cheating will have their games removed, and there is a strong possibility that they will be banned from participating in the future.

Cheating includes (and is not limited to):

1. Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, the replaying then starting the game again).
2. Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files.
3. Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage.
4. Reloading an earlier save-file and replaying turns in a different way. The only time you may reload a save file is to start a new play session, and you must use the save file from the end of your previous session.

Also, if in doubt, ask. If you think you have found a new loop-hole or exploit, then we strongly suggest that you ask as to its legallity before you use it. The aim of the competition is not to see who can exploit the rules, and as such, we reserve the right to disqualify submissions based on exploits that are discovered later.

Good luck and Enjoy!!
(attached both the non-zipped and zipped save)

a pretty hard game really.

Spoiler Text Below - Highlight to See Hidden Text

I think i could have teched way better if I had gotten some of the better land.   I did the peace route with space race in mind. I also thought I could do culutral too pretty easy.  I missed out on the sistne chapel though which would have made that an obvious choice with a specialist economy.

the key for me doing well was to do a lot of spying, getting a few key wonders, and most importantly doing a specialist economy.  with a specialist economy and phil you do pretty well even with no rivers and no food (which this map gives you). the land is more or less awful all around you.  It's fairly hard to get tech going even with a specialist economy.   I think if I could play it again I would try to get the gems to the south before the AI did.  and try to get the other sheep/whale city in the north west (it was barbarian in my game). I also would have tried to get one the early religons faster - my relations were bad all game and I couldn't trade for needed food resources.

There is something weird in this "Permanent War or Peace" setting.

When I meet an AI I don´t see any option for war, just for peace, so that you have to play a peacefull milking game ... all the time.

Is that a bug ?

Nope.  Thats the permanent peace.  If you started at war in the game, you'd be at war with them forever (until you killed them).  If you start out at peace, you're at peace.

I won this one by culture as well, but don't have internet at home, so I guess I can't prove it.

I actually finished this one almost a month ago and just never posted it. I lost in 1962 to a cultural victory if memory serves.

Cheers,
