This is not urgent however I'd like to know what cottages and its upper forms do.  Other than generating extra coins (and food/production depending on the square build on.

I decided to put this here instead of in the help form as the help forum is a urgent sector

Cottages develop into hamlets, then villages, then towns. Each stage gives you more income. Later civics also allow towns to produce hammers. They are good things to have, and should form a central part in any strategy. The AI loves them. Don't hesitate to pillage enemy towns and villages if you can unless you intend taking the nearby city.

Tyvm.

Heh, too bad you cannot name them or manage them (with less features/buildings and no wonderer building in them of course).  Then you could make like mini towns.

For example, in Ontario St. Catharines can be founded by a settler and my town of Beamsville can be a town uing my idea made by a worker   Allthough Beamsville was founded by a Settler named Jacob Beam back like in 1700's IIRC. so camden (to the north east of beamsville) can be the town and beamsville can be a  pop 5 town

that would be fun next time they should remember to add in Canada its annoying to use england instead. lol

And they also generate science as appropriate with your gold/science slider. 20 gold producing hamlets in a city equals 20 total science/gold.

Building hamlets was a hard transition from Civ 3 for me. I drop them on every grassland river and flood plains. Almost every single one (for the extra gold piece for being on a river).
