Forget the Oscars. Who cares what those pansy, artsy-fartsy, wouldn't know a good movie if it bit them, guys think. The biggest question is really, "What does Nuclearcow" think? Isn't it?

My best movie award for 2009:
The Hurt Locker

I originally gave it 8.5 stars on my review, but it is quite possibly my favorite, most well-done movie for 2009. Totally unexpected good war movie (that didn't show military as trigger happy b'tards ). Also, its an independent film that didn't totally suck! Who would have thought it? A facet of war (EOD team) that we normally don't think about. Darn good movie.

Worst movie:
Ninja Assassin

1.5 stars out of 10 in my review and because I was feeling generous. My IQ dropped 2 points while watching it, and I don't have much to spare.

Best actor:
Oh my. This is a toughie because there are so many good actors. I guess at 1st thought, Morgan Freeman struck me as someone Oscar worthy for playing Nelson Mandela in Invictus. Great acting and playing a black apartheid leader after he gets out of prison.... thats the type of historical role the Academy is goo-goo for and I'd almost expect him to win one. But my Nuclearcow Glowing Milk award goes to Jamie Foxx in the Soloist, who as a black, mentally disabled homeless person, plays the violin and other artsy-fartsy pansy stuff that the Academy will love a little bit more. Hehe, in all seriousness, I thought Foxx was awesome in that role, so I give him the award.

Best actress? I can't think of any that stood out to me as something amazing. I bet Glenn Close wins the Oscar for that Julia Childs film. Sounds appropriately artsy fartsy for the Academy. I didn't see it. For the movies I saw, I'll say Rachel McAdams in Time Traveller's Wife. Very nice job, and she's hot, which doesn't hurt for winning my award.

Special Effects
Avatar

Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Transformers 2 and some other hi-tech ones were out this year, but they lose, Avatar wins. Hey, its a good movie, despite the hype, and despite any polarized green messages or making military look like trigger happy a-holes. Ignore the reviews of the film and concentrate solely on the CGI. It looked real. Not "real" for CGI, or almost life-like like in other movies, but the interactions looked real and you forget it is CGI. Oscar worthy and certainly Nuclearcow Glowing Milk award worthy. (Hey, thats kinda disturbing since I'm a dude, huh?)

Best supporting actor? No one really stands out in my mind, so I'll say Matt Damon in Invictus, but really out of default.

Other awards. Nothing comes to mind.

What about you guys? Any movie awards you want to award right here? How about any bashing of the Academy Awards you want to make? lol.

I've heard a lot of hype about The Hurt Locker recently. It might be an Oscar favorite. If you haven't seen it yet, I'd recommend it. Very different sort of war movie.

WE ARE COMING TO DESTROY YOU, HUMANS!

WE OBLITERATED THE NAVI AND NOW WE WILL PULVERIZE THE HUMANS. PUNY HUMANS.

SAY YOUR PRAYERS HUMANS. BUT YOUR GODS WILL NOT HELP YOU. IT IS TOO LATE FOR THAT, HUMANS.

THE FINAL PATH TO DESTRUCTION IS THE ONLY WAY.

Yes, LC, hugely funny

I'll try and find the The Hurt Locker. It wasn't promoted much over here and passed us by. I agree about Avatar - it really should win some Best FX award - but not Best Movie or Director (I agree too much with jerm's Youtube post) The Star Trek film will give it some competition though.

Julie and Julia might pick up something. Does Slumdog Millionaire count? It was released over a year ago and I sort of doubt many in the US saw it. You should though.

I actuall very much enjoyed the Star Trek movie.  Three times.   The reason I had to see it that many times is Spocks character.  I grew up with the original Star trek and I figured there was no way Leonard Nimoy's character could be out done, and while Nimoy will always be Spock, the actor in the movie should have recieved at least a nomination but was overlooked.  But then Uhuru was a real kick also!

I saw that one. A bit slow compared to the average US film, but I liked it.

Could we get a reprieve on total alien destruction if we acknowledge the superiority of Aliens?

Ok, ok. I will cool it with the aliens....except in the Lost thread. At least there it is somewhat appropriate.

Anyways, I thought Slumdog was a great movie too....but didn't it clean house at the Academies last year.....something like 8 times the movie or those involved with it won an Award. Quite remarkable for a non-Hollywood film.

Slumdog Millionaire was nominated for ten Academy Awards in 2009 and won eight, the most for any film of 2008, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. It also won seven BAFTA Awards (including Best Film), five Critics' Choice Awards, and four Golden Globes. Slumdog Millionaire has been criticised concerning language use, its portrayals of Indians, and the welfare of its child actors.

I saw some criticisms of this film, that it was jumping back and forth too much between that past and the present, that it was too disruptive, but I think, quite the opposite, the served to enhancve the intensity and was a rather awesome efffect.

But, no, I only went to the theatres once in 2009 to see a film and that was way back in January to see Gran Torino, which I also thought was great. That was also opening in 2008 and was snubbed at the academies.

So thus I will have very little input on the films out there this year. I enjoy watching movies, but at this point in time have not been an avid moviegoer.

Cheers
