Finished at last with a poor scoring cultural victory on turn 399/ year 2004AD

I kind of stuck to a none warmongering strategy, I ended up being way behind in the techs and I shoved up Culture to 100%/90% for the last 25 turns or so.

It took 8 and a half hours!

Wow, I would have expected a higher score. Nice victory though, Genty. More than what I pulled off.

My losing effort was far longer, though I don't remember what it was. This was on "normal" speed too. Wowzers, this mod is long.

The score was probably that low because I was 5th and it was getting quite late in the game. I am ued to marathan games but actually, I really enjoy the pace of this one. Though it did get to the point where new units where coming out faster than you can use them.

I'm now up to the 1800's here, took a while longer than expected... but making progress. Should be claiming a result soon!

It's fascinating how all these completely different strategies and experiences are all evolving from the same start position. I've never found one of the Legendary units to be game-changing but LC just shows me how wrong I can be.

I've never been very good with the legendary units in this mod, especially in getting hold of any of the early era ones. So only had limited experience with them... primarily middle and later era ones. Sounds like you've used them to good effect early on there though!

The Sacred Band lost some of its potency once the enemy got Longbowmen. It could no longer cut through the city walls with great effect. So I had to slow my advance and come in with more catapult ho hum.

I managed to get in another session that took me up to 1400 AD.

productivity is on the rise. I decided to go for it against the Russians. But I noticed that the Vikings vassalized the Russians. The Vikings had a 0.3 percent advantage over me on the strength chart. I did not care. I organized my troops and sent them in to Birka. I quickly found myself in the uncomfortable position of waging an offensive war against Russia in the North while fighting a defensive front against the Vikings at one of my outlying cities at the northern part of the Southwestern Peninsula. Fortunately I had a bit of gold so I upgraded my weak units there. Unfortunately the Vikings were lodged in a strategic choke point to where I could not send reinforcements into the city so easily. Fortunately the city had the holy shrine of Taoism and thus had a very high defense rating. The Vikings brought a huge attack force, but only one battering ram. So while they wasted many years getting the walls torn down I was able to upgrade my units there, 4 strong, and send in catapults and heavy footmen to wear them down. Finally by the time they were ready to attack, I had damaged the stack with two catapults and managed to sneak in another defensive unit. So their assault easily failed. Birka had already fallen by that point, and much to my delight was holding a Science Academy. I will punish the Vikings by taking one more of their cities to the north of Birka and sue for peace, so I can shift the focus to nation building for a while.
To be continued.
